Georgy Zhukov
I might have made a similar thread, not sure what happened so it, so I thought I make a new and more official thread. This is a discussion of firearms, rifle, shotgun, revolver, semi-auto, black powder, smokeless power, antique, machine guns, safety, how to bypass laws, you name it. Discuss what firearm(s) you own and what would you like to own and if you've never owned, let alone fired a gun, what should you start with?Keep the gun debate to a minimum. This is to promote firearm responsibility.Think that covers the basics. Begin.
bran
shot my .45 a couple of weekends ago, i like going into the woods when the weather is cooler, so i might shoot more in the coming weekends. i need to fire my shotgun a couple more times as well. shotgun ammo is much easier to get a hold of now then it was this time last year that is for sure. Georgy Zhukov
I would love to collect bolt action rifles and revolvers.I would get a Krag, a Mauser, Springfield, the Enfield SMLE and the 1917. The Mosin-Nagent is the one rifle I would own. I think the French Lebel design is cool. Tubular magazine which is crazy because you never want the primer being poked when loading but they had an ingenious method of preventing that. Fired 8 rights, but like the Krag, it was nothing compared to the stripper clip.

downzy
Do a lot of people collect guns as investments?I assume, based solely on watching Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, that this is how most British people fund their retirement.
bran
Do a lot of people collect guns as investments?some do, just like anything else you sometimes find a gun that is being sold for a low price you buy it and then flip it to make a good profit. a guy i used to work with, found a gun at a yard sale bought it and then flipped it 2 weeks later for 200 dollar profit. AdriftatSea
I don't know brand names. I learned how to shoot them at a gun range. That's about it for me. They have no special meaning.

downzy
I read the book Glock: The Rise of America's Gun. Really interesting. Curious if other gun manufacturers have caught up to what Glock has been doing or are they still the dominant hand gun?

Ace Nova
I've owned several firearms in my lifetimeThe first time I ever shot a firearm was in Italy, shooting my grandfather's double-barrel shotgun....I think I was around 12 years-old....all I remember is the kick it gave....cool experience. The first firearm I've ever owned was a little .25 automatic. I was 18 but I bought the gun secondhand, so not sure about the legality of it. Nice little pistol. It was actually stolen from me less than a year after I bought it....which in hindsight, was probably a good thing.Later on I bought a Smith & Wesson chromed-out .40 automatic. Not the best memories with that gun....I owned it during some wild times in my life but thank God I never used it on anyone. When I settled down, I decided to buy a Glock 22, .40 caliber automatic. By far the best pistol I have ever owned. Never jammed, tons of power with little recoil. Eventually, I sold it to a co-worker once my son was born. I didn't want to have a pistol in the house.I later bought a Mossberg pump action shotgun with double-ought buck shots. This was by far the most powerful weapon I have ever owned. Eventually, I came to my senses and realized that if I ever were to use that thing inside my house, against an intruder....I had just as much a chance at destroying my own property and hurting someone I loved vs. only hurting the intruder. So I got rid of it as well. It's been a while since I've owned guns and although I like them....I don't really miss them all that much.
Georgy Zhukov
You wouldn't need to worry if the intruder was up close. Home defense requires a shorter barrel. Not the double barrel that Joe Biden was talking about, but something you can use indoors. I have mentioned this before, but if I ever get my licenses I will get bolt action rifles, revolvers and at least one 12 gauge pump action. I already lived it.Sure....I was good with my Mossberg.....especially with the Double-Ought Buck shots.....but I realized that I could literally kill 10 people at once, if I wanted to.......that's why I hung it up.....but to each, their own.... Georgy Zhukov
Well I am not going to go kill people. I just want to shoot targets. And learn about the casings, calibers how many grains.

Gordon Comstock
Spent the afternoon shooting clays with my dad and one of his buddies, we took a few shotguns out to the woods. It was actually the first time I've shot a shotgun, I tried 5 different ones today and my favorite was definitely the 12 GA with the 3" slugs I can honestly say though, that the only firearm I'd be interested in owning is still a revolver.
