ShadowOfTheWave
Which band is/was superior?
OmarBradley
Ah, tough. Both band's have high and low periods. I can't decide.
bacardimayne
Deep Purple and it's not even close. Skynyrd are glorified two hit wonders.
Powerage5
Deep Purple by a long shot.

OmarBradley
Deep Purple and it's not even close. Skynyrd are glorified two hit wonders.Deep Purple by a long shot. Skynyrd's non-popular/non-radio single tracks from the early era are overall really great (more directed at bacardi). Purple has a lot of shit tbh, even in the early years, though I love both bands. Zint
Deep Purple by a county mile so long it stretches around the fucking planet.
Orsys
I will have to go with Deep Purple. Child in Time still gives me chills. But love Skynyrd too.
DR DOOM
I much prefer Deep Purple.
Sixes
Skynyrd and it's not even close...it stretches all the way around the world multiple times and ends up in Long Island, home of the salami king, I'm an idiot
LightningBolt
Deep Purple and it's not even close. Skynyrd are glorified two hit wonders.I'm not much of a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan but they have several hits.
DieselDaisy
Oh Skynyrd were great but Purple, Purple. Now, this was a band which was much better than Lead Zeppelin, Sabbath, Kiss and Aerosmith combined, yet, never received the accolades they deserved. They are still not in the HoF!- In Rock- Fireball- Machine Head- Made In Japan- Burn
J Dog
Skynyrd
Crash Diet
The entire Lynyrd Skynyrd died that made their biggest hits, after that they are went onto medocrism, so...Deep Purple. The MK2 era is alone greater than LS's entire career

moreblack
And even today they produce some quality work, Purpendicular, Rapture Of The Deep, Now What?!, all albums worthy of being part of the catalogue.Deep Purple. And btw: Blackmore's made quite the prolific second career for himself.
ShadowOfTheWave
There is no DP without Blackmore & Lord. They can never be "worthy", because they aren't Purple.
moreblack
Maybe not, but they're still bloody good albums.

DieselDaisy
''At what point do, the departed members destroy the legitimacy of a band?'' Well, that is the question.
Crash Diet
There is no DP without Blackmore & Lord. They can never be "worthy", because they aren't Purple.you forgot GNR isn't GNR because SlUsh isn't there anymore
ShadowOfTheWave
It's not the same really. Axl was integral enough to keep it GNR, but Gillan just isn't.
DR DOOM
There is no DP without Blackmore & Lord. They can never be "worthy", because they aren't Purple.I must admit I haven't really heard much of any of the albums with Steve Morse, but Tommy Bolin was great and Don Airey's no slouch. It's the perfect response for them losing Ritchie.
