Facekicker
In her newly published collection of personal essays, Not That Kind of Girl, Lena Dunham describes experimenting sexually with her younger sister Grace, whom she says she attempted to persuade to kiss her using “anything a sexual predator might do.” In one particularly unsettling passage, Dunham experimented with her six-year younger sister’s vagina. “This was within the spectrum of things I did,” she writes. In the collection of nonfiction personal accounts, Dunham describes using her little sister at times essentially as a sexual outlet, when she was 13 she bribed her to kiss her for prolonged periods and even masturbating while she was in the bed beside her. "I took a perverse pleasure in delivering bad news to her, like the death of her grandfather.. hoping the fear would drive her into my arms"Wow, just how creepy does she sound? Would you be comfortable letting this woman mind your children? And what a shitty thing to publish about your own sister for the whole world to read.
Apollo
I've never understood the public's fascination with this woman.(How many posts until this turns into a "men are evil" discussion?)
Facekicker
The media reaction is very interesting. If this was a male celebrity, lets say Chris Brown or Bruno Mars, there would be a shitstorm. Not to mention a police investigation.

Apollo
First I've seen of this. Please tell me everyone is condemning it.I'm sure they will be.She was sexually abusing a minor.Disgusting. This will probably cost her her career.I wonder if she still preys on vulnerable people? A dude says "you look beautiful today" and he's a sexual predator harassing a woman in hopes of raping her........can you imagine the outrage people are going to have over what this predator did? Lio
It's strange, she was supposed to be in Belgium today or yesterday or whatever, to sign on a book fair, but she flew from Amsterdam back to NY in the weekend. I read yesterday that she had health issues. Now today there's this little review in the paper of what she'd done in Amsterdam and the reason why she didn't come to Belgium is briefly mentioned: Rumour has it her leaving has something to do with accusations of a conservative US website concerning her book, in which she wrote how she investigated her younger sister's vagina to check if it was just like hers. That's it. Then they go on about her visit to Amsterdam. EDIT: apparently she was 7 when she looked at her sister's vagina, who was then 1. I think that puts things more in perspective. I don't remember very well but I read something of the sort. One thing is to explore each other when you are a child and different when you are an adult doing it to a child. Nonetheless, it's uncool that she exposed her sister like this in her book. Is the sister aware of this or just finding out now?
Facekicker
That was one incident. The other incidents occurred when she was 13 and her sister was 7. There was definitely sexually motivated grooming of her sister going on. That's an offence. Makes me wonder what else was going on in that household, given that most children learn this behaviour from adults, usually as a result of having been victims of abuse themselves. downzy
Not quite sure what to make of it. If it's just a moment of her playing "doctor," like almost all kids do out of curiosity, that's one thing. But not sure where the line is between innocent curiosity and predatory behaviour. Any child psychologists in the house?

Any child psychologists in the house? The incident when she was 7 and opened her 1 year old sisters vagina could well be considered playing "doctor" but it is the other stuff that took place when she was 13 that is creepy and in her own admission 'like the actions of a sexual predator.'Either way, to disclose these kinds of things about her behaviour is downright weird...almost like a cry for help and certainly indicative of some very troubling issues lurking below the surface.

Yeah, very strange, not something I could try to explain with any accuracy or certainty. But if you've watched her show, you know her character is weird as hell. She strikes me as someone who has a vivid imagination that knows very little boundaries with respect to sexual boundaries. But again, I'm not psych major so these are just guesses on my part. Amir
I think she has mental issues that need to be addressed and she clearly has no concept of respecting her family members' privacy.'In Not That Kind of Girl, Lena’s essays delve further into stories of body image, dating, psychotherapy and familial relationships, one story involving Grace coming out as a lesbian to Lena during Grace’s senior year of high school. According to the article, “Though Grace wasn’t quite ready to tell their parents, Dunham was unable to contain herself and came out to them for her.” “What I didn’t say in the book is how it messed up our relationship for like two years,” Lena explained. The sisters then go on to disagree on just how long Lena was able to keep the secret. As Grace remembered it, Lena couldn’t last two days keeping the news to herself.“It was not two days,” Lena said. “It was a month.”“It was about a week,” Grace said. “It was about two weeks to one week.”“You came out to me, like, a week into shooting Tiny Furniture — Lena’s 2010 feature film — “and I didn’t tell Mom and Dad for like a week after we wrapped.”Daum notes that Grace then rolled her eyes saying, “Without getting into specifics, most of our fights have revolved around my feeling like Lena took her approach to her own personal life and made my personal life her property.”“Basically, it’s like I can’t keep any of my own secrets,” Lena said. “And I consider Grace to be an extension of me, and therefore I couldn’t handle the fact that she’s a very private person with her own value system and her own aesthetic and that we do different things.”'http://www.afterellen.com/lena-dunham-talks-about-coming-out-for-her-sister-and-being-an-ally-in-the-new-york-times-magazine/09/2014/That last sentence reeks of clinical narcissism and solipsism. It's depressing that she is considered by some to the "voice of a generation". I've laughed at a few jokes from clips of the show that friends have shared on Facebook, but as an individual I would be wary of anyone who regarded her as a role model.

Amir
I also think posing for Terry Richardson, a man who has had accusation after accusation of molestation and sexual assault hurled at him, makes one's claim to be a feminist extremely dubious. alfierose
I don't actually know who she is but she sounds a lot like Caitin Moran, a journalist, who wrote a similar book called How to be a woman. It's clearly not just one of those things, if appropriate authorities had been alerted to this at the time hopefully it would have been an enough of a red flag for someone to investigate. It's disturbing that she needs to share these things publicly as an adult. If we're going to discuss double standards though can I just point out that the majority here dismissed a 13 yr old Slash, drugging a girls Mum so he could have sex as a cool rock n roll story.

Makes me wonder what else was going on in that household, given that most children learn this behaviour from adults, usually as a result of having been victims of abuse themselves. Yeah, kids are more sexually curious than society generally likes to acknowledge, but this is some red flag shit, IMO. I really can't fathom this. I haven't read the book, but the quoted passages make it sound like she's relating it as though it were some kind of quirky but amusing anecdote!? And after designating herself the official celebrity cheerleader of the Woody Allen is a Pedo witch hunt earlier this year, she's in no credible position to complain about being scrutinized here. EDIT: WHAT THE FUCK AM I READING HERE!?! The toddler had the dexterity to stuff 'six or seven' pebbles in her presumably diaper clad vagina (there's a sentence that shouldn't exist right there)? And the self-awareness to have done so as a 'prank'? Last time I checked, toddlers have t-rex arms and laughable motor skills. Either she's making shit up, misremembering some more mundane horrible stuff to make it seem more colorful/less harmless, or that was one bizarre and sinister household she was raised in. I'm leaning toward some combination of 'all of the above'.“Do we all have uteruses?” I asked my mother when I was seven. “Yes,” she told me. “We’re born with them, and with all our eggs, but they start out very small. And they aren’t ready to make babies until we’re older.” I look at my sister, now a slim, tough one-year-old, and at her tiny belly. I imagined her eggs inside her, like the sack of spider eggs in Charlotte’s Webb, and her uterus, the size of a thimble. “Does her vagina look like mine?” “I guess so,” my mother said. “Just smaller.” One day, as I sat in our driveway in Long Island playing with blocks and buckets, my curiosity got the best of me. Grace was sitting up, babbling and smiling, and I leaned down between her legs and carefully spread open her vagina. She didn’t resist and when I saw what was inside I shrieked. My mother came running. “Mama, Mama! Grace has something in there!”What do you think? My mother didn’t bother asking why I had opened Grace’s vagina. This was within the spectrum of things I did. She just on her knees and looked for herself. It quickly became apparent that Grace had stuffed six or seven pebbles in there. My mother removed them patiently while Grace cackled, thrilled that her prank had been a success.
