@soon, never had it, just always wanted it.  My cousin had one, tried to buy it off him but he weren’t havin’ it.  Seen Ian Brown with one.  Its got a sort of early RUN DMC feel to it eh?

Fuck yeah, I thought of RUN DMC right away! Even theirs werent always leather. Its baller. Also, the late great Michael Brookes (political commentator) would love it too.

It seems that Adidas wont be making anymore leather jackets? At least currently the jacket materials they have for sale are "Ocean Plastic" "Recycled" and "Recycled Polyester." Which is awesome, but also means these vintage leathers are only gonna get more expensive and rare.

That's a thing over there in England, isn't it? Wearing sport jackets? The only people here who wear them are athletes and trailer trash.

Here too. Whether it be sports wear like Adidas or actual team jackets. In fact "Athleisure wear" is a popular category of clothing here. Its literally a mash up of "athletic wear" and "leisure wear. Its athletic looking clothing that is designed to lounge in! lol

Also, starting with Bob Marley there is a counter culture thing to Adidas. US anarchist Scott Crow and US socialist commentator Michael Brookes are often seen in Adidas. And there's something more broad in counter culture about sports clothing here. Like, there's a new Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) baseball jacket on pre-order currently. Tom Morello sports a lot of Chicago Cubs gear too.

The last time I wore one was when I was 15 and then I quit playing football and I never had a good reason to ever wear one again.

It's not even that I dislike how they look, I like the one Len posted, but I associate them with either athletes or

Oh thats right, with earthquakes and extreme weather youd want a landline. Id imagine some people use shortwave radio as well?

As an aside, I bought a solar powered radio/powerbank device and it came with the NOAA National Weather Service alarm feature. Id never heard of it, but apparently it works in my region as well. Cool.

Same here. But at this point anyone under 80 also has a cell phone. It makes them happy to keep the land line, I guess. Im a creature of habit myself, so I can relate to them.

Here young people not watch much TV too. Tv ratings down year for year.

I knew you werent taking a knock at it. :)

I have most of my team jackets, but yeah I dont wear them much. My first adidas jacket was a freebie that I negotiated with a head shop owner to include with my purchase. He was up-selling me to a glass bong and I said to throw in the adidas. lol. I felt pretty fucking cool in it!

And those pictures! Who are these people??  Sorry about them wanting to beat you up and all - thats not what Im laughing at. Actually, a pack of ladies threatened me with violence recently and it looked just like your picture of the scary spices!

That is not how me and those I was talking about look in Adidas and sports wear! haha

Its just like that here. I dont have cable, myself. I watch whatever cable stations offers free online. But mostly I watch our public broadcaster, streaming services and YT. I considered getting an app for some Comedy, Sports and Food cable channels during lock down, though.

Adi are the fuckin’ bollocks man, Adi are historical. You see em on Ali during fight of the century, you seem on fuckin’ all these great footballer when you’re a kid like Maradonna and all that, it means something, there’s a heritage there, they’re like these cultural fuckin’ footnotes.

See middle class people don’t get this but when you’re poor you don’t wannabe poor so you aspire to things thar you think are like...a bit smart, a bit slick, a bit beyond your means and in my day that was fuckin’ Adidas and Nike and that, its kinda like your little low rent version of designer gear cuz anyway what kid in them days knew what LV and  all that high end posh shit was about, you just wanted what the older boys that had a bit about em were wearing and that tended to be Adidas and Nike and that.

But I love Adidas, the originals more than anything, your Superstars and Gazelles and Country OGs and Indoor Supers and that, wear em to this day cuz like...they’re cool without being flash.  Minimal, like I like it.

Clothes meant a SHITLOAD to me as a kid, looking smart and dressing cool and that, again, I think its a working class thing, everyone else sort of dresses like a scruff-bag cuz like, its like a choice...but when you ain’t got a choice you kinda wanna look nice.  You look like a cunt half the time in England anyway as a kid, in your little blazery school uniform, you don’t wanna do it in your spare time too (though I did until I was old enough to get a job and buy my own clothes).  I remember the first ‘nice’ bit of clothes I ever owned, it was a blue Ralph Lauren shirt, a knock off from down the market, I wore that fuckin’ thing to death

Is a era of huge change of custom. When you back wach TV after much time you have the  feeling is all fake, in special mode TV news, at least in my country is better research in alternative channels , type social media , rather traditional TV.

Surely a non land based line would be infinitely preferable in an earthquake? I mean, if your house falls down you don’t want to be crawling back into the wreckage to order a pizza do you? 😂

Ha! Well our buildings up here are built incredibly well because we are in Earthquake country,  so yeah...a landline would still be accessible to order that pizza.

Our last big earthquake in Anchorage 2 years ago a 7.1 didn't damage buildings too much (stuff fell off shelves, walls cracked, water damage, etc.- but no homes collapsed) What did collapse and buckle was some of our roads though....

I believe that corona, if this lasts for a couple of years, will result in a surge of cultural initiatives.

wasn't the birth of rock n roll a reaction to the nazis being driven away? People were relieved, man. it naturally created an outburst of joy, after 5 dreaded years of submission.

I believe that we might get a new elvis or beatles.

@DazeyIs the Moss Side still a dive today? Looked on the map and it isn't far from Old Trafford actually.

Not sure to be honest. It's still got some pretty dodgy areas I'm sure but South Manchester in general these days is rapidly improving all over the shop. It's right next to all the student houses these days as far as I know.

I completely get you. And Brooks whom I mentioned earlier lived by that too. And for him it was also about saying 'come over here, we have the most fun, best parties, coolest people.' Which in my life I relate to as like, Ive been around and have come to the conclusion that I prefer working class culture over others. Like, I would much rather watch the local baseball team on dollar hot dog day, chirping at the visitors dugout while sipping a low key beer from home, with a few folks who enjoy the same than eat tapas with a bunch of fucking VC's.

But the image of a guy eating hotdogs and sipping a tallboy, that guys wearing a dirty shirt that came in his case of beer or whatever. But thats not working class peoples actual reflection - thats a cariacture used by anyone from conservatives to calvinists to discredit the working class. And some working people play to that type. But I say, we should look cool as fuck, because we are cool as fuck. Often times we are trend setters even.

I mean the entire cowboy thing for instance - that was us. So, like all of country music, and then countries role in rock. Thats just one example :headbang:

Im lacking in the shoe game. My current pair of runners was recently dropped off at my doorstep when my friend saved it from her brothers garbage bin

First. I love the image of you and all the other enlganders wearing those gay suits to school! Image had never occurred to me before. Bunch of Angus Youngs

I like that anecdote about the Ralph Luaren. Thats the good wholesomeness at the heart of the working class right there. For me I thought anything that wasnt homemade was the height of style and luxury  So my first true love was no doubt a less refined selection. Prolly a TMNT t shirt, but I remember feeling as you described, lol. My first Adidas jacket was it for me - I knew I had some mojo working.

Finally, a definite cold front has come to Texas. The temperatures dropped from the 80's to the 50's. It feels so good to have cooler temps.

I don't miss the heat at all.

Next week will be even colder and then back into the 60's. I do hope fall has come early to Texas.

Enjoy your cold snap! :) I wish we were in the 50's! We have left fall and even though there is no snow on the ground, it's like 30* during the day so we are now putting the kiddos in snowsuits. It's sooo cold!

I know the cold front is coming down from Canada. I love it. The only thing is it might bring rain and I don't like cold weather with rain. it chills your bones. I will be inside most of the time, but at least we are getting cooler temps. usually Texas temperatures are warm until at least November, so this is a nice change.
