SYSTEM UPDATE

We continue to experience heavy traffic volume to the forum, forcing us to keep the forum in performance mode that removes many of the features we all know and love. Traffic to the forum reach such epic proportions yesterday that it resulted in not only this forum being forced to shut down but the entire hosting server, rendering many other non-affiliated forums inoperable (essentially, we broke a part of the internet yesterday).

We are continuing to monitor the situation and when traffic returns to an acceptable level we will remove the forum from performance mode.

There is a plan in place to improve service and reliability going forward. We will update you all when and where we can to keep you better informed.

If you try visiting the forum and cannot, please check our Facebook or Twitter feeds for updates.

Thank you and again, we greatly appreciate your patience and cooperation as we manage a very busy time.

We apologize for the service disruption and outage experienced earlier today.

Due to the flurry of news and activity as a result of tonight's special club gig in LA, we were caught off guard by the amount of traffic we experienced early tomorrow morning.  We experienced six to seven times the normal traffic volume in a very short period of time and our current hosting plan simply could not support such volume.

We've negotiated a new plan, one with a dedicated server, to ensure minimal disruption going forward.  This new plan comes at considerable costs (nearly three times our current hosting costs), but far more important is that we provide a free and robust fan forum experience during this pivotal month.  We expect forum disruptions to be a thing of the past going forward.

Again, thank you for your continued support, patience, and cooperation.

Now let's all grab a nap as I think most of us are going to be staying up well past our bedtimes :)

Cheers,

Downzy

We have installed a new plugin that will limit the number of guest page views to 50 per day before registration is required to view more pages.  We will limit the number of page views for unregistered guests to 20 during performances to reduce demand on our server and provide more consistent and reliable service to our members and Club Members.

As Axl performing with AC/DC will be the most active part of the forum for the next month, we've made it so that AXL/DC is now it's own category rather than a subcategory.  This hopefully makes it more accessible and easier to find for those interested in discussing topics related to Axl and AC/DC.

With many of the mods and admins attending the Detroit show, we're in need of a little help and Highvoltage has generously agreed to assist in keeping things sane and civil on the forum.  With that in mind,  the team and myself are very grateful and appreciative that the former admin/moderator specialist @highvoltage will be suiting up tomorrow night.

Also, we're going to do everything we can to keep the lights on tomorrow night, but please be advised that outages are possible and even likely.  Forum traffic has moderated somewhat in the last month and we're no longer on our own dedicated server.  The economics just do not support the luxury unfortunately.  But we'll do our best to ensure delivery of service.  You may notice some features disabled tomorrow evening to assist in our efforts to keep the forum up and running.  We greatly appreciate your support, cooperation, and patience.

Here's to a great summer for us GNR fans!

Just to make everyone aware, you can only like other posts by using the default skin.  The custom MYGNRFORUM skin needs to be updated which won't happen until next week.  After the update all the reactions will be accessible within the custom MYGNRFORUM skin.

Until then, to like a post, please use the default skin.  You'll notice that there's more than just the like option.

Thanks to @highvoltage for adding the Dolphin reaction to the list of options.  If you GNR-like a post, feel free to use the Dolphin reaction.

Also wanted to announce that we have moved Canter Banter to the archives section of the forum.

We want to thank @recklessroad (Marc Canter) for his years of engagement with forum members and fans.  It's been great to hear his accounts of the early years of the band and we really appreciate his willingness to shed some light on his own experiences growing up with the classic band members.  I also want to thank him for making it easy for this forum to give away signed copies of his book Reckless Road.

As Marc no longer visits the site we felt it best to move the section to the archives to preserve the content for future visitors of the forum.  Members will still be able to review posts but will no longer be able to start threads or post additional comments.

Most members and visitors when visiting the forum have likely have noticed a pop-up alerting everyone to the issue of net neutrality.  This notice will appear only once every 24 hours.  This is an important issue and could affect the ability of sites like this one to continue.  We ask that our American friends do all that they can to fight any efforts to roll back net neutrality.

Thanks!

The forum will be temporarily offline around 12AM EST tonight (Thus, Sept 10th) for maintenance and updating.

The look of the forum might change somewhat once we have updated to the most recent hosting software.  My hope is the change is minimal and will only improve the functionality and user-interface of the forum.

Thanks for your cooperation.
