Axls dislike of Michael Jackson

Recommended Posts

Although he might not actually like Michael Jackson, it's likely he was referring to the name of the award, the "Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award". Saying their song, video, or simply the award had nothing to do with him

This.

Yeah but thats the point, why would you say that unless you had a problem with MJ, everyone knows the song has nothing to do with MJ, it's the award thats named after him, it's like getting a Nobel Prize and going 'actually this has nothing to do with Alfred Nobel', why would you do that unless you had some sort of problem with the association. It's obvious he's referring to the name of the award, thats not whats being questioned.

One of most embarrassing moments in rock history. Axl is sad, petty little man.

if you were molested as a child you may be signing a different tune

Didn't his memory about his molestation come from some psychological memory experiment?

well Axl believed in it and who are we to say its bullshit?

The award had everything to do with Michael Jackson as he lifted music videos to a level they'd never been to prior.

A video like November Rain would have never happened without Michael laying the ground work years prior.

So yes, the award had everything to do with Michael Jackson and it was ridiculous of Axl to say otherwise.

ding ding ding!

people read into stuff too much, especially when we're talking about stuff that happened over two decades ago. michael jackson was still alive and kickin' in '92 and was HUGE; even if axl had been having a go at him, it would have likely been tongue-in-cheek and a reference to his dominance of the pop landscape. years later people perceive things differently because the context has changed, kind of like how people still bring up axl vs. kurt even though it's highly likely axl himself respects kurt and nirvana these days. these threads annoy me, no offense to the OP.

It was a blatant shot at Michael Jackson and Axl not wanting to be associated with him. Pretty obvious...... unless of course your purpose in life is to defend the almighty at all costs. .

The most embarrassing thing about that appearance is how Slash and Duff ate dressed. They look like capital poofters from Poison.

They're dressed more ridiculous than Axl? I don't think so. They are all dressed goofy

Here's a thought: who cares?

Is it a shot? Isn't it a shot? Who cares?!

Btw it's not a reference to the molestation stuff - that award show was before that stuff happened.

damn you're right

so the story about Axl being mad about Slash working with MJ because he believed the abuse allegations doesn't add up either

Well it all first came about in '93, so it's still a possible explanation:

Personally I've always thought it was something very personal, more than just musical differences. Who knows?

remember awhile back reading about part of the axl v slash issue was due to slash playing guitar on some of Jackson's track...I didn't think much of it until I came across this video of guns accepting the mtv michael jackson video vanguard award.

go to the last minute and listen to axls parting shot..

I believe Axls remark was in regards to Nirvana. Nirvana had a Michael Jackson impersonator accepting an award an their behalf. This was the day Axl and Kurt got into it with Courtney Love taunting Axl, and him threatening to kick Kurt's ass.

The thing that struck me was how axl looked at slash after he said what he did. Seemed like that thing we always heard about old gnr being a "gang".

Also you can see how truly bloated the band was at that time...slash was loaded, axl was well...axl, and duff looked like he just walked off the set of interview with a vampire.

Before the allegations but not before having tons of kids up to his golf resort?

He may innocent but it's not normal.

Everything between mj and that kid happened in 1992, it didn't become public until 1993.

And we have to remember back in the early 90s Axl was to interscope as what dr.dre is now, so I'm sure axl and gang had heard things about jackson before any of us.

And who knows maybe slash said something about jackson being a weirdo after playing on "give in to me", so axl thought he was having slashs back, then slash turned around and played more songs with the guy.

talk bad about someone, then turn around and work with them again. Sounds like what happened back in the mid 2000s with vr and scott.

axl probably felt like "wtf"

And moreover, Axl's recent comments about MJ suggest that he knows what anyone who has done the tiniest modicum of research knows: that MJ was framed and completely innocent of the charges brought by Chandler and Arvizo.
