Rock out inside a Guns N’ Roses shredder’s LES rental

November 4, 2015

Welcome to the jungle! Or, more specifically, welcome to the Lower East Side, where Guns N’ Roses post-Slash guitarist Richard Fortus (he’s also guitarist for The Dead Daisies) is looking to rent out a co-op unit located at 417 Grand St.

“This is my first home,” Fortus told the New York Times in a 2003 story about the unit, not long after he snagged it for $350,000. “It’s the first time I’ve ever owned everything.” The two-bedroom, one-bathroom spread asks $5,000 a month.

The apartment comes with a nearly 5-by-13 private terrace, and lots of windows that let in light and look out to open views. It also boasts an upscale chef’s kitchen with Viking, Wolf, Sub-Zero and Bosch appliances, a spa-like windowed bathroom with soaking tub plus lots of storage space. The listing brokers are Amalia Daskalakis and Carl Muehlmann, of The Corcoran Group.

Kinda crazy he had to go through this...from another article:

Purchasing the apartment was a difficult task for Fortus and his lawyer, Jacob Goldman. Back then, people in the area are not keen on selling their homes and apartments to hardcore rock and roll musicians.

"Anyway, to get him in the building, we had to work against the stereotype of the rock and roll musician," Goldman said. "We had his former neighbors and his super write letters about what a nice quiet guy Richard is."
