Towelie Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I don't get it. Sure, shes got a good voice, but so does Alison Moyet, but I'm not about to go out and buy her album. I really don't get why her album sales are so huge, Billboard even listed her last album in a recent poll as the greatest album of all time. I mean, c'mon? You gotta be fucking shitting me with that bollocks? I know female warblers singing angst-ridden ballads written by a committee of songwriters has always sold by the shedload to the middle aged beige brigade, but folks are acting as if we haven't seen this all before, as if she is some kind of pioneer or musical prophet. She's a fat lass with a nice voice. Without her team of songwriters who are no doubt paid top dollar to give her their best material she would be nothing. She's basically this generations Shitney Houston, only less hot and with more chins. Quote
DieselDaisy Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Hey, she's lost a lot of weight recently. Her sales figures are freakish as she basically sells albums at 1990s levels and is the only one who is doing it; She basically belies the general trend in music which has been the decline of the album. Popular Post Len Cnut Posted November 20, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) I quite like her as a person, she seems quite sort of...nice, common, like someone that might've lived down my road or something. Musically? Well look, you can't fault her voice but i don't see nothing exceptional about the songs she sings. I think it has something to do with when someone is so pushed, so over-played, made such a big thing of that you come to realise that their talent doesn't really bear scrutiny so much. Or rather the product doesn't. If i just heard that fuckin' song, that big one of hers, without it being massively famous, I'd say it was alright...but you don't wannabe hearing that bollocks over and over.I'll take Whitney Houston over here any day. In an era thats desperately lacking in quality, particularly in the pop charts, when someone comes along thats halfway good they probably figure it's a good idea to get their moneys worth out of it. More power to her really, i don't have ever so much against her, she's not....awful or anything, i just don't think she's particularly amazing. I'll take her over a fucking Miley Cyrus y'know what I mean, she at very least stands on her talent and not because of some mass on-going pedophilic fantasy that contemporary people are having. alfierose Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I think she writes her own stuff or at least has major input. I'm not the biggest fan of her music but it's good that we have artists like Adele to balance out Miley, Britney types, I'm glad she's had so much success. 1 Quote
DieselDaisy Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Regarding ''The greatest album of all time'' thing, that just reflects the fact that it is her era. It is the modern bias. I remember Ok Computer making number two on a top 100 thing which ran on television in the 1990s (I do not know if anyone remembers it but it had Joe Wiley and that guy who was on Yew Tree charges recently?) . Do you see Ok Computer near the top of those lists now?Let the dust settle and your Peppers, Pet Sounds and Blonde on Blondes will reclaim their places. 1 Quote
Towelie Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) I just find her to be really offensive in her blandness. At least Amy Winehouse had an edge to her (and was infinitely more talented). The people buying these Adele albums in 2015 are no doubt the offspring of those who gave Phil Collins several multi platinum albums in the late 80s/early 90s. It's all power ballads and inoffensive midtempos, radio friendly corporate bullshit, songs written by tens of people, which have the artistic sincerity of a Stock Aitken & Waterman production. Towelie Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 She is rather like Dido (remember her?) on kebabs.Dido on kebabs - that's genius! I often find the most seemingly inoffensive artists to actually be the most offensive, especially when they're selling by the shitload, because it just says so much about how safe, predictable and bland the general public are in their music tastes. Its the same kind of people who made Wet Wet Wet one of the best selling bands of the 90s. Albums that will become Willen Hospice charity shop staples in five years. Quote

Seems that way! Quote
Towelie Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) It has to be a joke list.I really don't think it is, besides, it has albums like Rumours, Born In The USA, Tapestry and Thriller which always make these lists. But then you have Paula fucking Abdul who's apparently made a greater contribution to music than The Beatles. Edited November 20, 2015 by Towelie Quote

She may be a skank, but at least she offends The Daily Mail, rather than pandering to that very demographic.I she though? I don't think she offends The Daily Mail, i don't think she's at all offence, in fact her behaviour is totally in line with contemporary, political correctness, masquerading as the assertion of gender identity and what it means and mixing that shit up, she fuels The Daily Mail in terms of giving them something to print about...in terms of the readers, again, there's big furore over Miley Cyrus, no one pickets her gigs, no one holds demonstrations crushing her CDs, she's not offending anyone, quite the opposite. When something is attention seeking for attention seekings sake it becomes the least offensive thing in the world, things can't be offensive without being contentious to some degree, in terms of that brand of offence. It is for this reason that GG Allins behaviour never made national news, because it's just so obvious and there is nothing of any substance to it besides just attention seeking. Mileys in a similar category, how can i make things more and more and more and more skanky, it's totally inoffensive because everybody knows it's nth degree, it's a girl with her kit off...thats it, thats all far as you can go with it, it has absolutely no meaning or point other than 'how far can i take this?' And when she speaks, well that removes all doubt that anyone could ever have about her thing having some kind of over-arching creative or artistic value...cuz when asked to speak on it she hasn't got a fucking clue, it's just the saaaaaaame bollocks that Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, her and fuckin' whoever the others are, they just mumble some vague bollocks about 'expressing' themselves and 'being myself' (as if that was something you had to go out of your way to do ), there's no actual substance, nothing there to get offended about, there's actually some awfully politically correct about what she's doing, since gender politics are kinda like the politically correct cause of the day. Snoop kicked up a fuss about it though, didn't he? Ghost-Deini was on there which pleased me greatly, what the fuck Andre 3000 was doing there I'll never understand. The fact Rakim wasn't top of the list kills it dead for me although Biggie Smalls is a worthy No 1 i think. On what planet is Lil Wayne No 10 on all time greats and Pac don't even figure? Bullshit bullshit bullshit. Edited November 20, 2015 by Len B'stard Quote
