sonofnazareth
IMO, Axl has been thinking about the reunion since 1996. He knew that one day or another it would be the right time to get Slash back. For example, he didn't want Marc to release Reckless Road because he certainly thought that it would be better to release it when some sort of reunion would happen.Axl has wasted a lot of time thinking about stuff. HubbaBubba
Some of these insider-confirmed scenarios are very hard to believe.Ron played in guns for years and years with minimal artistic contribution, and then left on the stroke of the last bankable paycheck nuguns would ever generate. There's absolutely no integrity in his actions - just good business sense.DJ would've been ditched the second a reunion was inked, whether he 'stepped aside' or not. He was likely given the option to publicly stand down by Axl/TB, and was probably given a time frame in which to do it. I'll say again what I said back then - who the hell in their right mind voluntarily quits guns n roses for Sixx:am?The fact that he's implying that he 'let' the reunion happen just reinforces what a deluded weasel he is. wasted
Dj did at first say he saw the GNR break as a long hiatus and he'd have Axl's back if he needs him. I think also the Revolver interview about Axl wanting to put out CD II probably made Dj realise he's never going to record. The way Axl tackles Tommy at the end of the AFDemocracy dvd had a sort of goodbye vibe.
dalsh327
DJ was done being a well paid sideman when he came into the band with contributing as a songwriter and possible producer. I said before GNR is probably going to be like The Cure where you'd have a mix of old and new members and I was just talking about Izzy and Duff, but I never thought Duff and Slash would be reinstated as members. I'm still not sure if they are, just because they're using the old logo to promote Coachella. Can't wait to see the first promo photo though. Dazey
From MSL, who I believe does have a source within or close to the band, and he is typically pretty reliable with his information. He says that DJ quit because Nikki basically gave him an ultimatum. Sixx AM had two albums a world tour planned. GnR was - of course - still waiting on the follow up to CD from 2008. So DJ had to choose - guaranteed albums/tour with Sixx AM, where he would also be guaranteed creative input on the albums. Or stay with GnR and hope that someday Axl decided to record and release music again. DJ took the sure thing. And bowed out of GnR. I can't stand the guy, but I think his resignation letter was very sincere and he wasn't grandstanding at all. I think that this is pretty much on the money. I think Ron quit for similar reasons. Billsfan
Perhaps this is why Bumble didn't say anything. That's what I'm thinking

I can't stand the guy, but I think his resignation letter was very sincere and he wasn't grandstanding at all.MSL also said that Duff and Slash have been "begging" to return to GnR for years and years. So when DJ quit and GnR needed two guitar players and a bass player.....that begging paid off. Axl had two spots to fill. Duff and Slash were the easy and logical choice. That's why it isn't a full scale reunion. Just Axl reloading the band with a couple all stars. I can believe this and it makes the most sense. At the end of the day I imagine Ashba just made the most sensible choice. In SIXX: AM he has full input and isn't covering other people's parts and gets to write new music. Plus, GN'R were sliding downwards in terms of appeal and relevance, SIXX: AM on the other hand was only going to get bigger after Crue ended. Personally, from what I've read here I definitely don't think Bumble left because Slash was coming back. It was only a matter of time before he was going to leave really, he had been quite vocal about how frustrated he was in the band, with both the way things were run and the lack of any new music. I don't think it came as a surprise to many when he finally did leave. It's also interesting that he didn't announce his departure - maybe there was still the possibility of him coming back if he wanted to? I mean, after all there were no conflicts with his solo stuff at the time. The person I'm curious in all this is Tommy, did he actually properly quit? Given that the Replacements reunion fizzled out he could have come back. Ultimately I reckon that Axl toyed with the idea of a reunion around Duff's return. Whilst the Replacements reunion didn't go on for long he must have realised that there was a possibility, however slight of needing a new bass player if the 'Mats thing took off and Duff was the obvious choice. Then Ashba drops the bombshell that he's leaving and he realises that he needs a new guitar player and that yet another new lineup would look ridiculous. Plus, I doubt any musician who's at all 'known' would want to take the gig. So he figures that the best thing is to try and get Slash and Duff back full time. Whilst he doesn't need a new bass player any more it's the best option. Ultimately I can believe Axl wasn't pushing for a reunion. For one, he's not going to be the head honcho in the band any more and get to do exactly what he wants, plus it seems that with the renewal of the partnership he's not going to be the sole owner of the name any more. Whilst he'll make more money (although whilst the venues are bigger, I imagine Duff and Slash will want more than the hired hands did so it's all relative) his life would probably have been easier if he'd been able to push on with nuGuns. Bobbo
It takes this operation four months just to get a beach towel giveaway right. You really believe they pulled off something as epic as getting Slash back into the band in 120 days? GTFO
bigpoop
So the only reason he got SLASH back is because the great DJ Ashba was too busy with his band nobody gives a single fuck about to be in GNR anymore.Right.
Homefuck
I think that there's a number of reasons for DJ's departure. One would be that Axl (finally) understood that DJ is a poor songwriter and a sloppy (in a bad way) guitarplayer. That must've hurt DJ's feelings. alejandro.ars
I think Ron was planned to leave, if the reunion would not happened, he would quit anyway.DJ was very happy in GNR, it was like his dream, so it's very rare, in this case, i would say he leaves because of the reunion. Dont forget a message of him, i dont remember if it was face or tweet, he said something like "dont forget that i am a fan too", answering a question of a fan.
