For me argentina 93,(well a lot of skin n bones leg were magnificent), but that buenos aires 1993 last couple of shows were perfect in so many ways.  Axl voice reached a magical sound, body, tone, agresiveness/tenderness when needed, plus he was so into the songs .  that nr withwith only axl and slash .. Ohh .. That patience with "imagine" at the midle. The entire acoustic set...

The París 92 was insanely wonderfull,  but those last couple of shows in 93 ... Over the f..kn  top.   ILL give like pretty much "anything" for those shows with tokio 92 quality.

However, ive got to say..  Right now the band is reaching a very interesting, high, important enormes "shape level" so who knows, it seems like we may get a 2016/2017 show to argue the old ones ( not quite yet, but im pretty sure we will)

There's a few that standout for me all of which I think have been mentioned already. Late show 88 is really raw and loose as is Middletown 88. Ax's vocals really are incredible on videos of these show. Then at the Freddie Mercury tribute in 92 the band is really a huge stadium band at that point and firing on all cylinders.

Maybe unpopular opinion but I'm not too fond of the Ritz 88 always felt it was rather overhyped and that there were better performances available from that period.

Nightrain is the only truely decent song from that show

I'm indifferent man. the whole show is meh for me. Don't get me wrong its great footage and  a great performance n all but the whole show seems to have this mythic over the top reputation.

That's because it's the only bootleg from that era with good quality - Melbourne, Tokyo, and other US shows are a lot better performance-wise, but harder to listen to. Still a good show, Nightrain,  Mama Kin & Rocket Queen are all great, even though Axl leaves for half of RQ...

It's one of those shows that is overhyped. Even the band say it was bad gig

i maintain the Skin n Bones leg of the UYI tour is the best with some of the best preformances to date.

1993, greatest year of the band, IMO.

I don't know if it's the greatest year but it's one of the best

I agree with ssiscool but I think 93 is considered one of the best because they had more songs to play. '87 was the best in my mind but Nosaj makes a good point, song catalogue balanced with performance it could be considered their best year.

Best Axl vocals and well-balanced energy

Best Slash guitar sound

Best Matt Sorum drumming

Best setlist (good rotation of original songs and covers)

Best modified versions of songs (November Rain acoustic solos, Nice Boys long version, DTTJ with long intro, Patience with Imagine interlude)

Etc.

Maybe I should have been more specific and said that 1993 was the best year for the band live sound.  But the album of covers TSI? released that year featured incredible Axl vocals and killer Matt Sorum drumming.

Yes, but lacked the rawness and aggression of the early days. Im not saying I don't enjoy the 93 bootlegs but I guess I just prefer the angrier sound of the club days.

I have always placed "Patience" at the AMA show up there as one of the greatest — if not the greatest. I'm a heterosexual male, and no doubts about it, but Axl is fucking sexy in this performance.

Fuckin a man, what balls they had back then. Go on live tv, play a song slower n more mellow than anything out there. Duff had to slow fuckin Don Henley down for fuck sake. Patience was already out there, but still.

 Fuckn A GnFnR.

Yes. The only thing that comes close vocally is WTTJ from the VMAs and Patience from the 89 AMA's. Axl was at his peak here. Just listen to his cover of Free Fallin'.

Original 5 is the best!  Audio from those clips is great!

My favorite live performance to watch is and always will be Live at the Ritz.  But anything 87-93 is boss!
