It had drama and comedy. I highly recommend it. It reminded me a little of Clue. It's over 2 hours so it had many twists and turns, but very interesting and what an awesome ending! Yeah, it was Busey before he was Busey so he kinda sinks into the role well. I actually never watched it for years because I remember The Real Buddy Holly docu produced by Paul McCartney which was made as a reaction to this in regards to inaccuracies in it. Stupid fuckin’ reason not to watch a movie but I guess I just took ‘inaccuracies’ to mean its a load of shit but its really not. Absolutely love Buddy Holly too, I think he was fantastic, That’ll Be The Day has to be like...top fuckin’ 5 best rock n roll songs ever, along with the original Long Tall Sally its almost impossible to tire of. They were just so unique, Buddy I think was the first guy to play a Strat, or the first big guy, that clean ringing tone to it and those rolling drum sounds, so thin its almost like its being done on cardboard but with a kind of deep echo, its so weird to explain but The Crickets sound unlike any band before or since, they’re fuckin’ brilliant. Thats all I really ask of a band, just fuckin’ do something different, be you, they were rock n roll but they were pure Texas too. Buddys immortalised in those show shots as this speccy nerd but he was a bad motherfucker behind closed doors according to the stories. Robert Shaw tried the Indianapolis monologue in Jaws when he was sloshed and it was disastrous. He came back sober, apologized to Spielberg, and absolutely nailed it. It's the scene in the casino where he goes crazy and security comes to throw him out. He doesn't have many lines, and I imagine most is improvised, so I guess that is why Mike Figgis agreed that he could be drunk for that one. What Cage had in mind was that he would wear an earpiece and someone would tell him his lines on the spot and he could repeat it, but I can see why Figgis wouldn't go for that. I did get to meet Gary at another Texas Frightmare. He was in Silver Bullet, what a cool movie it was. Gary is a very eccentric guy. His son Jake was there but had to leave early as his wife was having a baby. Anyway, it was the year he was on the Celebrity Apprentice. I thought he was pretty good on that show. I told him he had a lot of heart and should have won. La Bamba was another good movie but also sad. Richie and Buddy were on the same plane.
