I’d say that’s pretty common with movies of this type. When I saw The Last Boyscout (Bruce W.), I felt like smoking all the time. :D And when you think about it, the movie, while being full of boozing, is not really about alcohol addiction as such – it’s about a guy’s way of burying the past and deciding to end it all. Could have chosen drugs instead. I haven’t read the book (didn’t know there was one either), but we know there was some family business before his journey to LV, and at one point he yells something like "he was my son" (don’t remember exactly).
Anyway, his best film imo (haven’t seen them all, though).

Yeah, it's of course about suicide, just a very slow one. He's already an acoholic at the beginning but instead of killing himself immediately he wants to have some fun before he goes, if you can call it that.

Not to get all macabre, but I hope that if I ever reach that point, I have the guts to do this. Just go on an endless bender or travel the world with the money I have left and then end it when all the money is gone. (I know it doesn't work that way...)

The Departed. Always a good decision.

Jackie Brown

The original shits all over Terminator 2. T2 is an awesome movie but not in the same league as the original.

A Simple Plan with good ol' Billy Bob.

This is one of my winter movies.

The only thing I don't like is the ending. They end up being depressed because they lose the money, but they just got a new baby, that should be worth so much more than any money in the world.

Agree with you there. Already a very sad moment when he had to kill his brother and then to end up burning all the money in the very end.

Into The Night (1985)

I love the yuppie nightmare subgenre - After Hours and Blue Velvet are 2 of my all-time favorite films. This one felt a little dry though. David Bowie definitely should have had a bigger part. The scene where he shoves a gun into Goldblum's mouth is the best scene in the film.

I have been re-watching Scary Movie 3 and they mention Pootie Tang often in the movie.  It was so crazy, but funny too.

The Birds is one of my favorite Hitchcock movies. I can watch it over and over again. Same with Psycho. I also liked Frenzy.
