Although being highly critical of their corona handling and other things, I have to hand it to the Tories. They have held my constituency for seven months, after a century of Labour mismanagement and post-industrial decline, and we are already seeing real investment including the reinstalling of the Northumberland train connection with Newcastle (axed in the Beeching Cuts of the '60s). There have been rumblings for years yet, despite Blair's big majorities, nothing! Zilch! Yet within months of a Tory takeover, the proposal is implemented!

This will materially affect my life and others for the better - I can be in Newcastle Central Station via public transport within fifteen minutes rather than one hour thirty minutes! - and have a knock-on affect on urban regeneration. This means more to me than tranny rights, antisemitism, ethnic people and the godawful European Union - which is all Labour are interested in these days. Well done to Boris if he pulls it off.

Says you? Your entire argument seems to revolve around fish and getting fucked up the arse! You’re the political equivalent of a Led Zeppelin after show party.

8 half naked men in a hot tub. Seems pretty Greek to me.

If you need an anaesthetic AND cricket you're beyond all hope.

Think the Cummings one is the best of the lot.

I think it's going to be shite. How do you parody something that's already beyond parody for real?

It used to be proper puppets like Punch and Judy when I was a kid. I liked the Kinnock and Major characters.Major was all grey and Kinnock was a burgular trying to break into number 10 😄

Thing is that they were all pretty serious characters which meant it was funny to see them made to look ridiculous. How do you make Boris look any more silly than in real life?

Same way they made Major more dull during the original series (although he had the last laugh as it transpired he was rogering Edwina Currie all the time): grey and eating peas for tea. That is satire.

PS

The puppets were truly spectacular though, brilliant examples of English grotesque caricature in the best tradition of James Gilllray, Hogarth and Cruikshank - I saw a Thatcher one in the Imperial War Museum last year. And then you had that generation of impersonating talent, Bremner, Culshaw, Cornwell, Sessions, who all started out on there.

Maybe I'm just being an old bastard but I think we just had a much better bunch of politicians back then for the purposes of satire. Yes Major was made to be boring but they always hinted that he was a dirty old bastard underneath it all. I was watching one of those retrospective shows about it a while ago and Edwina Curry was being interviewed saying she used to laugh about how close they actually were to the truth.

Can you imagine how they parody Shagger Johnson and Cummings? I mean it's just not going to be possible. Personally I actually thought it started to go down hill with Major anyway. Once Thatcher, Tebbit et al were out of the picture it just wasn't as good.

If the old Spitting Image did it, I could see them making Boris unbelievably Pickwickean and making Boris like sounds (bububu), and Cummings this Mephistophelean or Iago character, which judging by his digital puppet seems to be the direction they're going with him. Andrew writes itself. This will be utter shite though without proper puppets.

Remember Schwarzenegger being embarrassed over his tiny todger and over-compensating?

Are they not doing proper puppets? Looks like they are in those pictures.

You make a good point but surely by being more ridiculous they just give the satirist a lot more ammo and the potential of different directions to go in, you make it easier not harder to satirise them in one sense.

Apparently they were expensive to make, one of the reasons why the show was cancelled/never really came back, until now where I guess they can computer generate the fuckers.  Honestly, it didn't make a lot of sense to me at the time, since I was a child I didn't really get the depth of the satire on any level.  Same with The New Statesman, I vaguely remember it being on and my sister watching but Kinnock and Tebbitt etc etc were just familiar names off the news, it weren't really anything I was disposed to understand.  Shame cuz The New Statesman is absolute class.  So's Spitting Image but I kinda did watch that when it was about a lot more.

But there does come a point where there's no where else to go with someone like Boris Johnson. You'd have to start going into the realms of the surreal and fantasy to take it further than he has gone in real life.

He's already got stuck on a zip wire in union Jack helmet and fucking poleaxed a Chinese kid when having staged game of rugby 😂

Those would be good spitting image sketches but he's already fucking done it 😂

That’s my point exactly. I mean the public personas of the 80’s lot were very straight laced in reality. The comedy was in exaggerating some of the basis character traits.

Like Tebbit was a bit of an enforcer so he turns into a leather clad biker kicking fuck out of everybody. Thatcher basically turned into a bloke because she was seen as pretty authoritarian. How do you exaggerate Boris?

As for Trump? What do you do to satirise him? Have him telling people to drink bleach? Done it. Getting pissed on by hookers? Done it. Grabbing pussies? You get the idea. 😩🤮

Trump in a fuckin’ retards home, dribbling, making cookies with a cutter and missing the centre of the dough shouting bollocks like ‘build a wall!’, overpowering and shagging his own daughter when she comes to visit?  Just throwing ideas out there

Yeah, but how far is that from reality? Literally none of that would surprise me if it was reported in the news tomorrow.

The overpowering and shagging his own daughter, fair dues, thats on the verge of happening, you can see it in his eyes, the man is a living Ralph Steadman illustration.

It's like me taking the piss out of @DieselDaisy for being bald. I know he's probably not bald and that's what amuses me about doing it. (That and because he bites everytime 😄). So if he posted a picture of himself and he had a smooth head like a fucking snooker ball it would ruin it for me.
