And being a guitar player myself, I can verify that 95% of my playing is just noodling
BillyMac
Being a guitar player for over 30 years, one thing I have learned is that the average fan could care less about how technically gifted a guitar player is. What an audience is looking for is to be moved by the guitar player. In that regard, Buckethead wouldn't make a pimple on Slash's ass! Guitar shredding does not move people, speed on the Guitar does not move people. It's the soul in your playing and Slash has that, always and I suspect always will...

That's true, but if someone is "moved" or not by a persons playing/performance is subjective. Bucket has alot of material that isn't "shred" that shows that side of him as well. It all comes down to the individual listening.

Buckethead can do a lot more than shredding. He as a lot of emotional songs in his discography. How can you call that "noodling"? I supposed it depends on what setlist Buckethead plays. He has several songs that could move you. I prefer his more melodic albums but I'd imagine a show of his would include a bit of everything. How can somebody enjoy listening to that for half an hour? Are all of his 643460 million albums like the ones you posted? Like one half an hour song (...or not even a song in this particular case) and that's what he calls an album? Really? Aren't there any criteria that a record has to fulfill to be called an album?

The fact that sosso posted these as examples shows, that he doesn't understand much about music Bucket has different albums, as in albums with short songs and structure aswell. Some of them are pretty good (colma, population override, monsters and robots) But it doesn't make sense to compare slash and bucket anyway. And it especially doesn't make sense to hold bucket higher in regards of guns. Whoever does that is not a gnr fan.
DieselDaisy
My opinion on Buckethead is that some of his stuff is of an incredible high quality, beautiful stuff like the Colma album etc, and some of his stuff is the very height of masturbation. I followed his career during the 2000s, when he used to release normal albums, and every great release was immediately followed by an electronic album about chickens! ToonGuns
Both Slash and Bucket are guitar legends. Both can noodle incessantly, both can play rock / metal riffs, both can play emotionally, and both can play various styles. Slash is more classic rock orientated overall, Buckethead more experimental. Neither style diminishes each others ability. If anything they could learn from one another. They are both amazing talents.

This is pretty fair - even though he's got plenty of great albums, he's also got stuff like his 31-album 'halloween series' or whatever it was called which is all ambient, and frankly dreadful, among other 'experimental' albums. His 'weird' stuff is too weird for me. Though, I saw him last year, and he was fantastic. (As was Brain). People who say he plays without feeling.... Spoiler Skip to the second half, unless you care about Brain. ----- As far as a 30 minute RQ solo, fuck that. The current one is long enough, and Slash's solo are a highlight of the shows, but fuck off with 30 minutes of the same solo.
