dontdamnmeuyi2015
Ringo has been knighted by the Queen. Now he and Paul are Sirs. Very cool. I know this is a big thing in England. Wish John were still alive to be knighted. Long live The Beatles!
action
yeah they're knighting famous people in belgium too. some of them get insulted when you dont call them "Sir" I think it's all a bit boastful. it's not like theres chocolate coming out of their ass when they take a dump.

bucketfoot
Well done Ringo, about time he got recognition for his work on Thomas the Tank Engine. 3 hours ago, Oldest Goat said: I think anyone who gets knighted is probably a bit of a cunt. I think that is the problem many people have with this. I think, the people who pick up my trashbags every monday morning deserve it far more than ringo. Or the people who volunteer and help ebola victims. or.... you get the drift.

Lennon returned his 1965 MBE in 1969 for various cold war related protestations (and Cold Turkey slipping down the charts!), although technically speaking he still held his MBE as there is constitutionally no renunciation mechanism. I highly doubt he would've been granted one therefore, or accepted one - unless he pulled a Jagger, ditching lefty activism and becoming a institutional-yuppie sort of character. For the sake of argument though, has the trashbag guy really? Stop for a moment and think about the economic contribution alone of The Beatles. Ringos probably paid more in taxes alone, that your average persons total life earnings.

I ain't saying its right but its a fact. I could drop dead this instant, nobody would give a fuck, if the president of 'x' country got assassinated it would be massive for that country, have a potentially destabilizing effect on the country and its economy and effect peoples lives, not saying Ringos equivalent in importance to Donald Trump or something but if he did drop dead it would effect a lot more peoples lives than my death or your bin mans death. DieselDaisy
I'd like to see less of these things, and more for Samaritanism, but Ringo is a lot more deserving than sports guys who get their gongs when they are still mid career because Britain has won something, a la the 2005 Ashes side and the Beijing-London Olympians. Len Cnut
Ring’, whatever anyones opinion of him might be, was one fourth of arguably the greatest phenomenon of post war popular culture. Just don’t send him a congrats card cuz it’s goin’ in the fuckin’ bin

People are honoured and decorated for all kinds of reasons every year, including service in the Armed forces, bravery, charity/voluntary work, contributions to the Arts, Science, Medicine, Sporting achievements etc. Anyone can nominate anybody else for an honour. The vast majority of people who receive them are, rightly, very proud when it happens. Don't see the problem with it myself.

Honestly, I'm a big Beatles fan and everything but I think anyone who gets knighted is probably a bit of a cunt. P.S. The royal family are a bunch of inbred gaudy parasites. Not sure exactly why it's a big deal in the UK to be knighted by the Queen. I know the royal family doesn't rule the UK, but they sure get tons of respect. I'm still trying to figure out how they are worth millions? I also think Harry and Megan's marriage won't last. He's more like his dad and we know how his marriage to Diana went. I think Harry is too young to get married and since she's older, how long will they take to have kids? Having kids right away is not a good idea. Getting used to living with someone takes time, especially with famous people who seem to have tons of shit to do! lol Yeah, John probably wouldn't have cared much. He marched to his own drum.
