Here is the story so far of my involvement: So obviously they were looking to put old stuff (flyers, demos, pictures, etc.) on the boxset.  Why they aren’t all on there I don’t know, but I have hea

Yes. They planted that tree there 20 years ago just for this moment, to black him out.

Here's the FACTS

There's only 2 surfaced recordings for 'Shadow Of Your Love', NOT 3 or 4 or 5 :

- Sound City AFD 2-track pre-production demo (june '86) : officially released on the 'Live And Let Die' single. Yes, the credits on that single are INCORRECT.

- Pasha Studios AFD demo (august '86) : officially released on several singles, with added fake crowd noise.  Available without fake crowd noise on numerous bootlegs.

-> The snippet you're hearing on the .fm site is the Pasha version, without fake crowd noise, remastered and/or remixed.  It is NOT re-recorded (not the vocals, not the music).

The only thing that sounds fishy is that little lick that's not on the original.  Either that is something unused that was on the master tape, or they added that recently (BLASPHEMY!!!).

The Mike Clink version that is rumoured to have been recorded during pre-production with Clink in late '86 is uncirculated.  It is NOT the .fm snippet version.

There are 3 AFD demo  sessions :

- Mystic Studio (August '85) :

'Welcome To The Jungle' + 'Anything Goes' + 'Don't Cry' (officially released) + 'Back Off Bitch' + 'Think About You'

-> ALL of these were bootlegged in the late 80's.  Recently surfaced in pristine quality by Troccolli. 'Heartbreak Hotel' was also recorded, but was not on the demo, and never bootlegged.

- Sound City Studios (June '86):

'Out Ta Get Me' + 'Rocket Queen' (2 takes) + 'Nightrain' + 'My Michelle' + 'You’re Crazy' + 'Paradise City' + 'Move To The City' + 'November Rain [Acoustic] + 'Shadow Of Your Love' (officially released) + 'Reckless Life' + 'Think About You' + 'Welcome To The Jungle' + 'Don’t Cry' + 'Nice Boys ('officially' released) + 'Back Off Bitch' + 'Anything Goes' + 'Mama Kin' + 'Heartbreak Hotel' + 'Ain’t Going Down'  [Instrumental] + 'Jumping Jack Flash' + 'Jumping Jack Flash' [Acoustic] + 'November Rain' [Piano] + 'Heartbreak Hotel' [Acoustic] + 'East Coast Junkie' [Acoustic] / 'Move To The City' [Acoustic]

-> ALL of these were bootlegged in the late 80's.  Other stuff was recorded but never bootlegged: 'Cornchucker', 'The Plague', ... Most run at the wrong speed/pitch.

- Pasha Studios (August '86)

'Reckless Life' (offically released) + ' Nice Boys' (offically released) + 'Move To The City' (offically released)  + 'Mama Kin' (offically released) + 'Shadow Of Your Love' (offically released) + 'Welcome To The Jungle' + 'You're Crazy' + 'Heartbreak Hotel' + 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' + 'Mr. Brownstone' + 'Nightrain' + 'Sweet Child O' Mine' + 'Don't Cry'

> ALL of these were bootlegged in the late 80's.  Without fake crowd noise.  8 of these were surfaced in pristine quality by Alan Niven.  The rest run at the wrong speed/pitch.

If an AFD boxset is coming, it should include ALL of the above.  Not some of it, ALL of it.  Now is the time.  It's now or never.   It should also include anything we DON'T have or never heard about before ('You Could Be Mine' ?  'Perfect Crime' ? ... ).

If they decide to BUTCHER these sacred recordings with modern day re-recording, or worse even, let NON-GNR musicians add stuff to them, THAT IS THE ULTIMATE SACRILEGE.

If they decide to add music/songs recorded after '96 with NON-GNR musicians (who shall not be named ever again), that basically have nothing to do with GNR, THAT IS THE ULTIMATE SACRILEGE x 1000.

I will then proceed to ritually burn every GNR related item I own, in protest, and then set myself on fire.

They have managed to fuck up just about EVERYTHING they've done since they started, so if they ever decide to do something right, PLEASE LET IT BE NOW !!!

P.S. I would take a UYI boxset (with rehearsal, demo, pre-production, rough mixes, outtakes, live shit, ...) over an AFD boxset ANY DAY !

i agree with everything except the burning stuff part and the setting yourself on fire part!

:rofl-lol:

youre right but i still dont see them spending that much on these billboards just for a boxset that hardly anyone outside this forum will buy... and forget about the boxset, i dont know one casual fan that would buy shadow of your love off of itunes as a single track

Well, it's unlikely it will be just a box set, there will probably be a CD/DVD option that will fly off the shelf. Universal have every reason to get behind the release.

If it's a box with "enough vinyl to count on two hands" of just early shows, demos etc all from the appetite era, that will be fucking insane even if we all probably have bootlegs of most of it anyhow.

yes! i hope they add ALL the stuff we alreday have but now im fantastic sound quality and also give us stuff that we never listened to, specially studio stuff from that era!

and please with no re-recording whatsoever!

A box set with 6-10 vinyl records (and who knows what else?) still shouldn't cost $650...

so there must be more stuff on it!

$650 sounds like a bullshit price someone brought up and everyone's buying into the lie

I've said this in another forum... I can't see how a re-recording would hurt.

If it's not at the expense of anything else, would you really be upset if it is included?

I might be in the minority, but listening to the re-recording of Appetite from 98-99 is an interesting thing for me. It might not stand up to the original, but it is still part of the history of the album.

I'd LOVE it if it were career spanning but you know it's only going to be AFD-centric. I'm'a still buy it anyway

thats actually good because it opens the way for similar boxes in the future for Lies and the Illusions, right?

Which years do you all think the shows will be from? If "early years" meant 1987-1988, the 1988 Felt Forum show would be great. But if it meant 1987-1993, I would like:

- 1 from 1987 or 1988, the Felt Forum show would be cool

- 1 from 1992, especially the Cologne show

- 1 from 1993, the Munich show would be cool

Which concerts would you like this box to have?

well, if they give us the originals and then add some nonsense re-recordings, clearly presented as such, then its fine with me

my fear is that they will live-era us again

That's true.

An Illusion box set has real potential!

The date on that being friday is interesting.

The countdown ends tomorrow but if it is a boxset, I wonder if they are pulling a surprise release and it will be in stores Friday and tomorrow is just the announcement.

Third Man Records recently did that with the new sleep album and kept it completely secret until it leaked only 1 day before the release.

Actually the countdown ends Thursday night at midnight Eastern DST US, which is actually Friday 😉

Depends on where in the world you are I guess.

The countdown ends mid-day on the 4th in Japan and Australia. Early morning in Europe.

Ah, never mind. That makes sense then.

Either way, it is still a friday which is a music release day, not as much as a press release day (usually Monday or Tuesday)

I think Mitch Lafon on twitter said it’ll be a fall release. But I guess we’ll find out very soon!

Anyways, we all saw Axls tweet about Tim Cook recently, are we to assume AFD Deluxe will not be streaming on Apple Music? Spotify? If not, that’s a hugely lost market and means the box set will only garner to hardcore collectors.

I don't know about that. GN'R streams all of their albums on those services today.

I think they got huge in 1991 and 1992, with a world tour. Pre-teens and teenagers are the ones who move markets for any act that becomes popular.

This forum is a good demo, I think.... :)

they got huge in 1988-1989
