Again... a GNR album has nothing to do with the new SMKC album. This album was in the works before we even knew anything about the reunion. By the end of 2015 like 75% of this material was already written and the band already started preproduction.

If GNR had decide to make a new record Slash would be available, no question.

So if you want to complain about a missing GNR album please don't do it in this thread.

This. These two bands are completely separate.

Listened a few times now.. Not bad not great.. The music is good but Myles just somehow makes it sound very similar to almost everyone of their other songs. There really isn't a thing about it that makes it stand apart..

I was starting to notice that in parts with WOF. I think slash needs to do another solo album with guests just to add add some unprectabilty as music reviewers will all start th o say the same thing "good album but nothing different to his last releases he has a formula which he sticks to".

I think that Bad Rain is actually one of the better songs on Apocalyptic Love, and arguably stronger than at least half of WOF.

Agree 100%

all 4, can’t forget Anastasia, are far superior than anything on WOF

You’re a Lie is a classic. Took me a while to realize it.

The live crowd eats it up

You realize his solo album with guests was not that well received critically at all? Metacritic gave it just over 50%, lots of mixed reviews, and Allmusic gave it 2 stars out of 5. That's the worst argument ever, to put what music reviewers say over what the fans or he himself want. Music critics are worthless for the most part.

And it's not like a working formula is a bad thing, never stopped bands like Metallica or ACDC. Infact they'd get shit for changing it by the fans (like Metallica did). WOF was Slashs biggest success since Contraband so he'd be dumb to go another route. He always did the same thing musically anyway, apart from VR, which he ended up saying he did not like anyway later on.

An album doesn’t need so many left turns and overproduction to be deemed a classic.

All it takes is some good melodic catchy melodies & riffs/hooks.

Often accomplished with 3 chords and < 3:00 mins.

..what's that got to do with it being boring? Those are completely different points. I'm not really interested in arguing those because you did not mention them in your post before and I actually agree with those. No, that people find it overproduced or whatever doesn't boggle my mind whatsoever.

But I'd actually argue you on that last point there aswell as there are a lot of 3 chord 3-4 min songs on that album which accomplished that. Dirty Girl is hard rock perfection, Avalon and Withered Delilah are 3 minutes of rock n roll bliss and Iris Of The Storm starts out with calm chords then turns in some heavy riffs. Stone Blind is even psychedelic in a way (again something Slash hasn't really dabbled in before), and Automatic Overdrive is just a great short to the point rocker. And even these short songs go in directions you don't see coming sometimes, again going back to the 'boring' argument. He pretty much pushed the hard rock boundaries as much as he could without straying too far from it.

Just heard it for first time and I love it! I see what people mean about Snakepit riff. To my ears its a bit more Snakepit 2 than 1. Its true that its formulaic and concise. Singles do tend to be to the point, but also the British invasion was. It seems to have some of that spirit to it, arrangement wise. Where every section is an opportunity to spring energetically into the next interesting section.

I guess thats Frank on the Tele on the left? He is playing some tasty guitar in the verse! Even some melodic elements like Izzy.

I like the solo. Are my ears playing tricks - I think there is definitely some phaser on the second half of Slashs solo and maybe some subtle auto pan tied to it?!?!?! Very vintage phase.

Great to hear! :headbang:

I don't know how you can call WOF (the album) boring and uninspired.. That record is a beast musically.. Myles gives some of the songs a generic feel because that is what he does unfortunately but the band sounds truly inspired. The msuic is so strong that it outshined Myles and still turned out to be really solid.. I thought so anyway.. I listened to that thing for like 3 months straight when it came out.

I personally think WOF is his best solo album (not counting VR or Snakepit). It was the first album I bought when I first got into Slash. My favorite song is “Beneath the Savage Sun” that song just fucking rocks. My first concert was actually SMKC at the Hampton beach Casino Ballroom 2015.

Yeah, I love WoF instrumentally, I still dream about a instrumental version of these albums coming out as some sort of bonus material or something like this.

I agree! Instrumentally it was really inspired. Too polished compared to Snakepit but whatever. I still get in the mood for Avalon once a week or so haha.

I feel bad... I bet I would love to have Myles as my friend :D .
