Flew into ATL last night, border official asked me what I was here for. Mentioned the Slash gig, he said, “No kidding, is he still in Guns N’ Roses? They’re one of my favourite bands!” I know the NITL tour grossed half a billion dollars but it’s amazing how many people still don’t know about the reunion, and I put that down to the lack of any sort of group interviews or promo.

One of his favourites yet he doesn't know if one of the big three is in the band or not.

It's been a decade, dammit 🤦‍♂️

You should say "yeah, and he calls himself now as 'Ash'® ".

My God, MYGNR Forum seems to be in a rut slump lately. 😵‍💫 In SIX days, only about FIVE threads got  replied to on the Guns N'Roses Discussion Subsection 😵‍💫 Yikes! 😱😳 Just last month, about 10 threads were getting replied to a day. I don't know why activity has went downhill this week.  😵‍💫

I mean not everybody follows a band to the point they spend all this time posting on message boards.

To some people they might have been to a couple concerts in their lives and only own a handful of albums but they like the songs when they hear them on the radio or at a sports game and because of that it's their favorite band

Nah. You don't need to "spend all this time on message boards" to know one of the most famous guitarists of all time is back in one of the biggest bands of its generation, especially if they're one of your "favourites".

A casual listener, maybe (although even in that case not knowing he left in the first place is more likely), but not someone who claims the band is one of their "favourites".

Maybe he's just a Poser? 🤣🤭💡🤔 A guy said that he wanted to impress his love interest who was a HUGE Star Wars Fan, and he WASN'T a HUGE Star Wars Fan, so he told her something like,"I love Star Wars! The Dark Invader is my favorite Villain!" 🤣 His love interest knew he was a Poser because he didn't even fully KNOW Darth Vader's name, the Dark Invader indeed! 🤣 As I write this post, it DID occur to me that technically, Darth Vader IS a Dark Invader , although that is NOT his name! 🤔💡🤣

The guy didn't ask if Slash was back in the band, he asked if he was still in the band. A lot of people thought the reunion wouldn't last long and it's a sensible question to wonder if he left the band again given their history. Especially since Slash has done solo tours and albums

Splitting hairs. It was a fair assumption on my part

Director of Shrek wanted GNR on the soundtrack when the film was early in development in the '90s:

Adamson refused to be intimidated by Katzenberg, and battled with him over such outrageous ideas as sexual jokes and adding Guns ‘n Roses to the soundtrack

Listening to "Watch This" from Slash & Friends for the umpteenth time, I always feel this track should have been presented to Axl at some point since the reunion to add some vocals.

Apparently Jack White was supposed to do vocals. What could have been

The 50 Most Disappointing Albums of All Time

"5: Guns N’ Roses, ‘Chinese Democracy’, 2008

In hindsight, it was slightly crazy to expect anything spectacular from Guns N’ Roses by the time Chinese Democracy hit shelves in November 2008. By this point, the band had just been Axl Rose and hired hands for over a decade. Their 1999 song “Oh My God” from the End of Days soundtrack was profoundly unexciting, and we’d all read the reports of the endless, ludicrously costly Chinese Democracy sessions. But we still hoped that Axl had spent all those years chipping away at his masterpiece and the end result would prove all the doubters wrong. That did not happen. Despite a handful of strong songs like “Better,” “There Was a Time,” and “Prostitute,” the album is ludicrously overcooked. The partially reunited band breathed new life into many of them on the reunion tour about a decade later, but Chinese Democracy itself remains a deep disappointment. And the sad fact they’ve offered up nothing new since it came out short of warmed-over Chinese Democracy outtakes is even more disappointing."

Hey, at least it wasn't number one! 😁

I wish Chinese Democracy was judged more on the actual content quality over the external BS around it.

It gets what it deserves. Its quality isn’t really high with exception of some songs and the overall sound.

Yeah and they did say:

"Despite a handful of strong songs like “Better,” “There Was a Time,” and “Prostitute,” the album is ludicrously overcooked. The partially reunited band breathed new life into many of them.."

I think that's pretty fair. Some songs are strong but the album is way too overproduced for many. And that they now sound more organic live.

More organic, yes. But a lot less inspired.

I don't think it's fair at all. I think if anything, CD had the most memorable guitar work/solos of that time. Axl's vocals and melodies were pretty great overall, and at least he was trying to come up with something new. But instead of saying the album was bold and ambitious, people often say it was just "overcooked" and nothing else.

I've heard that, and that it was overproduced. But I'd take that over the horrible production on most of the NITL singles thus far... (Perhaps seems to have the best mixing of the 4, and I believe it was mastered by the mastering master himself, Bob Ludwig, before he recently retired.)
