..... and by that I mean my wife! I've just spent all day filling out Visa paperwork and had to pay £2400 for the latest fucking application so I can keep her!

Meh, it's still cheaper than paying for childcare!

You would assume Britain had reciprocated nuptial agreements, and that no great expence occurred for couples - at least I have always assumed - or am I missing the obvious that someone at the foreign office discovered a convenient little earner? Especially if you have children!

True love ain’t like a pie or a selection of cream cakes Christopher, you can’t put a price on it

That's over £7 grand in visa fees it's cost me in the last five years! For that kind of money I could buy a silly expensive watch to boost my self esteem or something equally silly! :P:lol:

It's £2400 when they enter the country, another £2400 after two and a half years to extend the visa and then another £2400 after five years for indefinite leave to remain. After that there's another grand or so if she wants to apply for citizenship and a UK passport. If she had kids that weren't mine it would be the same cost again for each kid. So with 2 kids it would be £7200 for each stage of the application. It's a fuckin' racket I tell you!!!!!

I never believed for one second that that occurred but then you married Johnny Foreigner. Should have just stuck with a nice homily lass from Recar. All you would've paid out is Gregges pastie money and the odd Friday night Kebab.

Just one more reason to carry a credit card!

Seriously though it's fucking bollocks! For non EU immigrants you get absolutely bummed up the arse by immigration. Pretty sure that @lukepowell1988 must be in the same shit given that his missus is a foreigner too.

Dazey, we all know that you've done well for yourself. I'd say you're punching above your weight, but that would be just another cheap joke about your BMI and I don't agree with fat shaming.

She's worth every penny and you should be thankful that you have the honour of paying that to secure your wife's future in this horrible country.

See, this is why girls ruin everything! Bugger off Grace and let me indulge my fragile masculinity without having to put up with your feminine logic and reason.

2400 pounds?   Welcome to democratic socialism. :P

"US Visa for UK Citizens. Fees and Costs. A US ESTA costs U$14. This is the fee for every person entering the US."

$14 in the USA.  Capitalism baby.

In all seriousness, why so much and why can't she become a UK citizen?

Why not just pay whatever it costs in real money to become an American? Your wife is a damn Mexican that everyone is clamoring about lately, why not get the dually before we bar brown people from the country?

Yeah, but if memory serves, an ESTA is valid for six months. For a longer term stay, you need to prove that you have employment in the US, can ride an alligator and competently impersonate Elvis.

I'm not sure about the ''democratic socialism'' bit but sufficing to say that British governments of all persuasions are extremely good at producing novel ways to take money from the subjects here. It is about the only thing Britain does well these days, bum raping her citizenry financial. Our train fairs will make you weep.

And ESTA ain't a citizenship application, everyone pays that even if you're going for a holiday or what have you.  I do a bangin' Elvis impersonation btw, end scene of Love me Tender...GIT AWAY FRUM EEM, LEAVUM ALONE!!!!
