Say what now?

Pretty sure you're referring to the "Bloody Roses Remasters" or something similar. I think the "Bloody Roses" tracks were from Rio 2001, and then there was another batch of remasters from the Boston 2002 soundboard (can't remember what they were called). They could've been done by imsorry, but I don't remember for sure. But an actual 1999 demo of CD has never circulated among the fan-base.

I found it in my library. Sounds like a demo to me but I could be wrong. Instead of the Bucket solo it continues with what sounds like Robin.

Back in 2002 Bucket would play a different solo during his part of the song cause he hadn’t really figured out the final solo yet. There was a fake CD99 leak bouncing around YouTube a while back that just took two live versions from 2002 and layered them together. You probably heard that.

People are saying that's just a low quality remix of the Rock Band tracks. At least that's what I was told.

Im hearing different drums.

Some new guitars.

Could be done by recording over the rock band tracks but my gut feeling is that its legit

I don't think so as the piano and orchestration can't be separated in the Rock Band files.

Here i understand where they werent satisfied with Josh drum sound. It sounds way more huge on the.final version.

Also the outro is really cool here.

Not as grandioso as the final version but really cool.

Nothing beats the final version for me. Its my fav track on chinese atm

Almost all the orchestration parts are on their own track in the RB files.

I haven't messed with them in ages, so I couldn't tell you for sure. I'm just going by what someone told me anyway, I don't know for sure one way or the other.

Atlas sounds like a bad soundgarden song, or a song by the band "Live." Hard to judge completely on 15 seconds, but it just doesn't do it for me.

Not to sound like a dick; and I'm a reformed hardcore Axl supporter, but when you listen to these leaks, it's easy to hear why the album took forever for release, and was probably released against Axl's wishes - the vocals are absolutely atrocious. Axl was regarded as one of the best rock frontmen of a generation, and he's whisping through these songs like a cartoon character.

The high range just isn't there. On a song like Atlas, where he is sitting more in his natural range, it sounds OK, but then you start getting the infamous "mickey" voice when he tries to push it. You hear traces of him reaching for that past range in Hard School, but the vocals are pretty embarrassing.

I might catch some shit for this, but a lot of this material hasn't and will never see the light of day because Axl Rose can't sing anymore - and it's not gonna get any easier as time goes on. You had that one window between 06-10 where he was putting on a great show, but those days are over.

The NITL tour got by on names alone. The shows weren't better than shows we saw in '06 - I'll take that to my grave. Listen to songs like Slither, and Black Hole Sun. Axl Rose has no business singing those songs. They are an absolute embarrassment, nor does a typical GNR fan give a crap about hearing them.

I love axl but not to the point of deafness.  Your points are valid.  The auto tune comes in during HS, not as badly and noticeably as it does in parts of the finished album.  Or in the looney tunes song.   But hey, he’s human.  I’ll buy whatever he puts out.

the Beatles released “let it be naked” without the overproduction.  It would be cool to hear a similar release.

I get it. The human voice changes over time, and the average Guns N Rose's song wasn't written to be sung by a 50 year old man.

You have to figure his perfectionism, the bar he set so high for himself, and a changing vocal sound compounded the release of the record as well as touring.

Singers are artists. They hold themselves to a certain level. Honestly, I don't sing outside of karaoke, and even with that I get pissed off when my voice is off.

I could only imagine how a professional gets frustrated.

He does sound pretty weak from the 99-02 period, and that's my biggest problem with the CD songs that used those vocal takes. But he did lay down some pretty awesome vocals after that when he did those 3 songs for Bach's album in 2007, and I think he sounds great on CD songs like Shacklers, the bridge in TWAT, and Better. I'm really hoping he laid down a lot of vocal takes from 04-10.

I have tons of demos of all the hits.  Most sound bad.  If you cant hear the old axl at the 29second mark of Atlas, you are crazy.  This is going to be a very good song cleaned up in studio.   Not saying live, but in studio for sure

Autotune is not something you would notice unless is extreme on purpose, like that Cher song or those YouTube videos where people gets speech and turn it into a song.

You should hear the CD vocal stems. Autotune city. Not Cher, but not for off. In the context of the mix they sound passable but it's all heavily tuned.

I think I'm gonna pass on this one, really not interested in nitpicking on it. I do remember hearing Bach's backing vocal in Sorry and felt it was compressed and autotuned. Can't remember a lot of Axl's vocals like this, tho.

The point is: if it's not noticeble (or at least, "passable") in the mix with every other instrument, what's the big deal? Are we judging this autotune based on the final mix or just the isolated vocals?

Those are 1999 recordings of his voice. For whatever reason, he didnt want to rerecord it all and would rather fix the tune of any fuckup instead. I really don't see a problem with that. We all know what he is (or at least waws) capable of in good conditions.

It's not a problem. In today's industry it would be unprofessional not to tune the vocals. Anthony Kiedis would be in deep shit without autotune (Melodyne, more specifically).

I do think Axl's vocal degradation is the reason for his reluctance to release music since the mid-1990s. He did a number on himself on the UYI tour.
