CD Leaks Discussion Thread **NO LINKS, NO ASKING / HINTING FOR LEAKS**

Imagine being so deluded as to think your personal listening habits are an accurate measurement for the quality of music.

Well...there is a level of worship and appreciation that comes with a massive pile of leaks from a band who has been in lieu of new music for decades.

You'll inevitably get people who are so happy to have anything - let alone this whole buffet of stuff - that their appreciation is amplified by "how much they've been wanting it."

I have to agree with the small contingent of people here who find only bits and pieces of these songs worthy. I personally was pretty disappointed in many of the songs - they just didn't measure up...and I guess that makes sense, because they were left off the one and only release that came to define that period of the band.

I think, where the community diverges is the opinion that these songs could be successful today or that they could be valuable pieces of building blocks for songs that the reunited band could build on...

My opinion? Many to most of them should be let go of. You could spend forever working on a particular group of songs (and he has - and then some!) or, you could let go of your bronze prize and try and grab for the silver, gold or platinum.

I think this Chinese material is cursed in general - it's a product of a time and a creativity that has completely extinguished. If Axl Rose has anything of an artist left in him, he needs to realize that he is under no obligation to forever work on something he started twenty years ago.

If he were to start fresh, I really believe that he would be more successful in completing songs. I think the Chinese material comes with a curse of in-completion.

Let's just make this clear. We will not allow any discussion relating to any correspondence that was intended to be private.  This is none of our business and just as we would want others to resp

Even though the content of the storage locker wasn't intended to be released by its creator, I'm glad I got to hear it. It's music. But private e-mails are another story. As much as curious I am

On second thought, I guess "Dragon" could be an alternate title for Jackie Chan/Hard School since Jackie Chan was Bruce Lee's stuntman in "Enter the Dragon"

"All I Ever Wanted" could be an alternate title for "Better"?

So you’re saying there are versions of these songs that exist with lyrics and vocals? How do u know?

The leak for Quick Song has guide vocals from Axl so we can only assume he managed to write and record lyrics in the last 19 years. And he mentioned recording vocals for Soul Monster, so therefore a version with lyrics must exist.

Axl said the lyrics for Oklahoma were about a moment during his court case the day following the Oklahoma city bombing, or something like that. The title was also changed to Berlin by 2008. He also said he recorded vocals for Soul Monster on a Christmas eve (probably 2004).

It can be assumed that Quick Song has a finished vocal track since Axl seemed to have the basic melody figured out in 2000, and he mentioned it among the 'confirmed' songs during the 2008 chats.

He even performed soulmonster on christmas eve, a few years ago...

Oklahoma is mentioned as being instrumental on the CD's from the leaks, while all the other instrumentals just had their titles, which tells me that a version of Oklahoma with vocals had already been recorded, it just wasn't in the Village sessions leaks

Hardschool

Dub Suplex (a simpler version instrument-wise, maybe)

MaME

Atlas

Oklahoma

Going Down (Duff on vocals, w. a killer Slash solo)

Zodiac

Perhaps

State of Grace

Devious Bastard

+1 or 2 songs from scratch would make a killer album.

Why Duff on vocals? Either leave Tommy on vocals as a cameo or have Axl do the vocals alone.

Zodiac was also labeled at not having vocals on one of the disks.

When I hear the song I can (and really like to!) imagine Duff's vox all over it, I just think It fits well with his singing style - and in my mind It sounds good. :P

I can't understand some people's thoughts at all - do you really believe that they even consider releasing a song with Stinson on lead vocals on the next Guns N' Roses album with Slash and Duff back in the band?

This. And Duff wouldn't sing in a song written by someone else unless it was a cover.

After yet another opportunity to drop a single and/or make an album announcement has been bungled today, I would like to take a moment to show appreciation to both Tom Zutaut and Kevin Cogill without whom we'd have ZERO new music to listen to.

We'll always have Hardschool, Atlas Shrugged, Perhaps, State of Grace & Eye On You.  Which together, make a great E.P. from the CD era.

The instrumentals are a cruel tease though, would have hoped the band would be reworking some of those so we could get versions with Axl's vocals/lyrics.

As for Oklahoma.....I would HOPE that there really are lyrics cause that's one song that Axl actually described as being "inspired" by the time he was sitting in court being sued by Erin Everly on the same day of the Oklahoma City bombings.

BUT.....it's always within the realm of possibility that there never were any vocals.  I'm not trying to be negative; just pointing it out.

Maybe after court he heard the instrumental track for the first time and said "Yes, I like this one....it's a keeper....let's call it 'Oklahoma.'"

Hopefully not....but the only reason I even say that is cause when it was played for the Rolling Stone reporter in 1999 it was only an instrumental.  If he had supposedly written something or been inspired by that day in 1995, why was it still lacking a vocal track in 1999?

And then changing it to Berlin at some point in the next decade. Weird.

I really hope there are lyrics and we get to hear them someday.  That's probably the most anticipated GNR song since "This I Love" since it's the one we've known about the longest at this point but still haven't heard.  Just hearing the instrumental after all these years was very cool, but it needs vocals!

Not to mention the greatest instrumental EP of all time featuring: P.R.L, Real doll.com, tonto, Okalahama, and Moustache.
