Not sure I love the portrait orientation.  I'm sure (or hoping) you can lay it flat.  Won't fit in my entertainment console if I have to sand it upright.

You can, indeed, lay it flat. People seem to dig this box but it has no personality imo. Very bland.

Meh, I think what the box looks like isn't all that important.  At least to me.  I'd rather have something that doesn't draw attention.

To me it looks like something Apple would design if they came out with a console.

I've primarily had Xbox since 2002. I will definitely be getting a PS5 next gen.  My Xbox One is mainly a used as a streaming device. I love Halo but it is essentially the only big exclusive Microsoft has. I have been massively let down by Halo this generation, and feel as though I have missed out on a lot of great Playstation franchises. Xbox One was a big disappointment for me

heh I agree, it's just what I do when a new console is revealed, share my opinion on how it looks. Of course it's about the games.

Yeah, everyone gets really excited for the hardware reveal, and then most immediately trash what's revealed for looking nothing more than a box.

Soon after that no one really cares what it looks like.

Just another trivial thing to get excited about, disappointed, and then ultimately ignore.

I will say that it looks more refined than any previous Xbox.  The original Xbox One was pretty ugly.  They got it right with the S and the X.

The decent thing about either PS5 or XSX is they'll both be backwards compatible, so you'll be able to play all the games you missed from this generation.

I'm not really into exclusives.  Most of Sony's offerings don't do much for me.  It would have been fun to play Spiderman but I can live without it.  I'm really only here for GTA and RDR.

More important for me is the controller and whatever console I can play with my friends, which usually happens to be Xbox.  I'm also a big fan of the Forza Horizon series.

I might jump PS5 next year but we'll see.

Microsoft is making a huge push next gen with first-party games.  They're not going to make the same mistake with the XSX as they did with the Xbox One.

They said that last time with Xbone. I don't have faith they'll come up with a bunch of great franchises this time, but I'm not rooting against them or anything

I casually play games. I like single player games a lot and when I play multiplayer, its usuallynjust a match or two at a time. I think exclusive franchises will mean more for me since I was so disillusioned by this last generation. Red Dead 2 and Witches 3 were the only two games that really felt special to me this go around.

yeah best controller, more first party exclusives, and the best online infrastructure plus backward compatibility. I like how they added a share button. It's better to give the consumers what they want as long as it doesn't interfere with their vision. (even if personally I don't use that feature)

Still undecided on what I will buy. I can't afford both a PS5 and an Xbox Series X.

I'll tell you what my biggest concern is with what we are seeing from the new consoles, a lot of what is either being assumed/presented as in-game "real time" visuals isn't.

Sony has a long track record of this, I'm not as sure about Microsoft but here's the bottom line:

If you know PC hardware and console hardware, whatever is in the console is always a few years behind PC in raw power.  The console version is ALWAYS well optimized, and looks and performs better than it's PC counterpart, but visuals that are unattainable on CURRENT PC hardware WILL NOT be attainable on a console released next year.  I haven't looked it up yet, but the GPU in the next gen consoles will probably be the equivalent of the 9 or 10 series Nvidia chips, around 2020 of next year the 30 series should be out. The 30 series will probably be $1500 to $2k a card.  You will not get anything that powerful in a $400-$800 console.

There are visuals being shown (I didn't spend a lot of time on the XbX reveal posted here, but I've seen some PS ones) that are better than anything that is on the PC market.  Those are bullshit.  They won't happen.  There is some admission of this when companies say they are "anticipating" more powerful tech, but WE KNOW that the GPU will HAVE to be a few gens old in order to be affordable, it's a bit disingenuous for their marketing to hide behind the "It might be invented by next year" line, because even if it was, it wouldn't be priced to go with a console.

All tis being said, I'm still going to get one.  All I'm saying is it won't look it does in the hype package.

Last time they didn't invest in a massive number of game studios like they have this time around.  I think there's 15 or so gaming studios under Microsoft's belt whereas there were only five or six when the Xbox One came out.  Apparently most of the games these new studios have been working on are for the XSX.

Yeah, the thought definitely crossed my mind.

I remember when Watch Dogs was first revealed it looked amazing.  The final product: not so much.

Guess we'll have to see.

Yeah, it's something we see in games a lot.  I hope it's at least close to what is being shown.

I've always had a bee in my bonnet about consoles BSing on pre-release stuff, ever since 99 when I was managing a Babbage's looking for a real job after college.  The internet wasn't what it is today, and there was SOOOO much misinformation about the PS2 and people would talk/ask me about it all the time because I was working in a videogame store.  It was a purposeful move on Sony's part, even their reps would just straight out lie about the PS2 when they would visit the store.  One of my favorite(most despised?) rumors I've mentioned before, the PS2 was so powerful, there was going to be a shortage because it's deliveries would need military escorts.  If a bad actor got a hold of something as powerful as a PS2, it could take over entire countries...   <------ that was a fucking thing.

I think their most famous lie was "Toy Story 2 graphics"

***** Are there specs on this yet?

i just love my xbox one x. I don't have a huge backlog of games, but what I have is up there with my best gaming moments ever. You just can't beat a library that contains rare replay, master chief collection, metal gear 5, red dead 2, resident evil 2, mortal kombat 11, resident evil 7, gears 5, the F1 games... all in the best quality available. also, the controller is the most comfortable controller for me.

Heck, I never thought I would say this, but this might just be my favorite console ever.

It was stressed that Hellblade 2 was rendered in-engine, but it’s still yet to be determined whether the engine was running the XSX or a tricked out PC.

Earlier this year Microsoft did say the next gen console would be four times more powerful than the current XBX, but it’s hard to imagine what that really means in terms of graphical fidelity.

I actually think Microsoft did themselves a favour with the name. They couldn’t call it Xbox 5 to match the PS5 since it would technically be Microsoft’s fourth console.

Calling it the Series X allows Microsoft to release new consoles in the Series branding but with a new letter to denote something new.  I always wondered if Microsoft was going to find a way to get off the wonky naming strategy they’ve employed so far.

I think microsoft always made poor choices for new console names. I'm not sure what xbox "one" even meant. Then the "S" came, then the "X" but these letters don't say anything. It's not clear which one of the two is the better console. I think a name should be clear to the customer. if you buy the PS5, you know it will be better than the PS4. I think microsoft shot themselves in the foot. and now, with the "xbox series x".... oh boy. to joe public, how are they going to see that name and instantly know it's the successor to the "xbox one x"? it's becoming a bit confusing.

They couldn’t call it the Xbox 4 since it wouldn’t stack up against the PS5.

I suppose they could have dropped the Series name and just called it the Xbox X but then it might have created confusion with the Xbox One X.

A letter designation to indicate a console iteration is really the only way for them to go at this point. Many other companies use non numerical designations for their products so I don’t see it being a huge deal. Most will likely just call it the XSX (already see some referring to it as the Xsex).

Doesn’t work. Are you going to buy a PS5 or a Xbox 2?

They went with Xbox One the last time to describe how the machine would be the one place for all media consumption. It was marketed to be something more or other than a gaming machine, hence why they mistakenly went with One.

Calling it Xbox Two doesn’t really mean anything since i think they want to move away from the idea of it being a media box and focus solely on gaming. Plus it makes it sound like it’s significantly weaker than the PS5.

i'm not going to buy anything for the time being, pretty happy with my X1X as is :P

I think people can see the 5 and the 2 don't have anything to do with power. it doesn't refer to bits or something like that.

when people bought the xbox "one" in stead of the PS4, they didn't think "one" refered to weaker hardware than the PS4 either.

xbox series x suggests another version of the xbox one x to me. if I didn't know better, I'd genuinly believe it's just a mid-gen upgrade.

I don't think the general public knows much about the Xbox One X.

Joe public knows what a Porsche 9/11 is but only car enthusiasts know about the GT-R or the Twin Turbo models.  The Xbox One X is more of a niche product.  Soccer moms buying a console for their kids likely aren't familiar with the Xbox One X.
