Is Duff talking about Hard School here? If so, did we know it dated back to 96 with Slash and Duff?

In addition to @SoulMonster's link, the "Jackie Chan" song is mentioned in Matt Sorum's (not  yet officially released) book as a track Axl had and the band was working on (there were no vocals yet), which Rick Rubin, who was very briefly involved, liked.

I've been away from GNR for about 2 years now and I honestly don't plan on coming back full-time until they release something new. They're still my favorite, but nah. Enough of this catalogue.

That being said, I feel the only way they can redeem themselves and make up for the past 30 years is another double-album. Release it the day UYI turns 30.

Sounds shitty, like they owe me/us something, but I don't know. 30 new songs, exactly 30 years after UYI. I'd be in 7th Heaven - and I don't mean that show about the preaching family.

Like, I want to feel this band again. The way I felt when Power Up! was released and I bought it the day of. Listened to it on the drive home. It was such a great feeling. Now imagine that with a new GNR album. Ugh. I hate this band

Will someone tell me what's happening with this band?  I don't want to read through 300+ pages to find out that nothing is happening.

Howdy all.  I've been away for a while dealing with life and lockdowns and various other.  Dropping by to catch up on news...if any.

Believe it or not, I missed my time here!  Some good people.

Are those crazy loons still here, Diesel Daisy and Len Cnut and SoulMonster and the like?   Do Soulmonster and Diesel Daisy still endure a turbulent bromance?

Is MillionsofSpiders sill around and all the brilliant women from the Women's Thread?  Hello to you all if you are!

Is it as eerily quiet in here as it out in the real world...

There is no new album...is there...:max:

Hence why it was (rumored) to be the first single and why it was going to be played live.

This is why I kept mentioning that Hard School was probably written by the classic lineup and not Nu-GNR. It has that typical structure to a classic GNR song.

If Hard School was written in the Slash and Duff era, were the lyrics too?  Cause that would end my long standing theory of the lyrics to the song being about Slash after the breakup fallout.  Then again that would be a savage move for Axl to write a song about Slash, with Slash still in the band, and then make him play it 30 years later as the first reunion single

According to Matt Sorum (see my post above), it didn't have lyrics then. Apparently Axl wrote them later, and yes, they're clearly about Slash

Bloody hell! I detest the mere concept of the double album! Haha! In my view that is 100% NOT how to go about it in today's market. Short, snappy and to the point is how music is consumed these days. There's a reason why the past 2 AC/DC albums have clocked in at the 40 minute mark! Double albums are a thing of the past.

I say prepare two-albums' worth of material but release it with a 2-year gap and tour it correspondingly (successively).

That would be much better than a double.

Right? Something like CD/CD 2 "was supposed" to be.

everytime Axl releases an album it's a miracle. The idea is very cool, but it's too risky imo. What if Axl releases 1 of the 2 potential albums and then decides he's not in the mood to release the other one cause not everything went perfectly with the first release and how it was received?

I'd rather he gives me both simultaneously just so there is no time for him to change his mind.

I know he's pretty much the boss, but then again I don't believe Slash and Duff would just succumb to his whims just like that. Especially in these times where you can't expect the same sales of physical records like maybe 20+ years ago.

And if it was the case, at least he'd have one more reason to release something that is really good.

I wonder if Slash and Duff even care enough anymore beyond doing the work and if Axl wants to use it, cool if not, whatever. For Slash it's more important to play live anyway and also maybe they don't want to jeopardize their professional relationship with Axl.

but we know next to nothing so maybe Axl shared with them how he wants to approach a release, who knows. Slash said "maybe next year". Not sure if it means he is genuinely optimistic or just pulling a Fortus.

Listening to Duff's "Three cords and the Truth" the other day he was speaking about having nothing to do during covid.  He mentioned that he can't tour and perform so instead he goes to the studio everyday.  I remember he then said "we" go to the studio 5 days a week which I thought was interesting.  Hope the we is GnR but it could be anyone and it could be a home studio... Still could be....

All pure conjecture but that is what most of this thread is so why now jump in and have some fun?

I presume the 'we' is him and his wife.

They did a video from a home studio a while back and it was those two anyway.

Yeah it's his own private studio in Seattle, so he's probably referring to his engineer and whoever else he's jamming with. He's not talking about GnR.
