Hahaha! Remember when he said it might be a good idea to inject yourself with disinfectant?!

It's not even about 'republicans' or 'democrats' really in my view- the guy is a stone cold fucking idiot, irrelevant of political leanings. It's right there in front of people to see.

100% agree. Idiot and takes dishonesty to unimaginable and dangerous levels. Fuck this guy and everyone who has enabled him. Not sure how anyone can defend him at this point.

Good for Axl for speaking his mind. Wish he’d bring that fire on stage or, given we are locked down, into the studio

Im sure Mnuchin has his own team brazil doing that for him

Probably, but it doesn't make it any better for him.

Isn't it funny that, from what I read, he or his team have ignored all the other public criticism towards him but chose to reply to a rock musician's criticism by asking him what he has done for his country?

I had an idiot boss who loved Trump and he'd say shit like "The Stock Market is BOOMING!" and I'd be like, "do you own any stocks?" and he'd be like "uh, Yeah!" and you knew that he was full of shit. He'd go on about the GDP (as if he knew what that was) and how me and him were going to have all this extra money because of the tax cuts (which never materialized for us). So yeah, if you are super wealthy than Trump has been great. Lots of shitty low-paying jobs out there, record low unemployment which counts people who work a few hours a week and doesn't include people who just stopped looking for work. It's not all Trump's fault and things were in a downward spiral for the working class for years, but to say that "the economy was never better under Trump" is fucking preposterous.

Maybe we should be holding the Treasury Secretary and the President’s administration to a higher standard instead of lowering it to Axl Freakin Rose’s level? Seems like some have that issue and are trying to put them on some sort of even playing field

This is exactly what everyone should take away from this interaction.

Steve Mnuchin is the Secretary of the U.S. Treasure - one of the most powerful positions in the United States, if not the world.  He's effectively elevated Axl Rose - someone who as much as I agree with him politically, should not be considered an authority on U.S. politics - as worthy of his response.  In the middle of a pandemic where tens of millions of Americans are losing or have lost their jobs, you have the treasure secretary responding to a rock star.  That's fucking mental.  And it's incredibly bad PR.

It reminds me of what Richard Nixon use to do with LBJ back in the 1960s.  Despite being a failed politico by virtue of losing the presidential election of 1960 and then the California Governorship to Ronald Reagan Pat Brown a few years later, Nixon was able to elevate himself by getting LBJ to respond to his criticisms as though he were an equal.  Outside of Vietnam, it was one of the dumbest things Johnson ever did since it helped Nixon revive his career and propelled him to the Republican nomination in 1968.

Nothing good could come by responding.  But apparently Trump's guy thought otherwise.  It's just mind numbing how much of an amateur Mnuchin really is.  Not a huge surprise considering he was claiming, even as late as middle March, that the pandemic would only shave a half point off GDP growth.

All of these celebrities think they are politicians, health care professionals, etc. STFU and focus on what you're gifted at.

LOL

Celebrities should keep quit and stop criticizing the celebrity president.

Right, got it.

Why does any and everyone that likes Trump ALWAYS reference the 'media' as some sort of big enemy? Is it because Trump always does?

I'm not sure they know what they're talking about really, like they think 'the media' all sits in one little room and has meetings. Or they maybe think 'the media' is one big company, rather than a catch-all word used to describe the entire global communications and entertainment industries?

What do they even mean by 'the media'? Is it essentially 'any newspaper, film or music outlet that disagrees with them'?

You often hear 'the media' blamed when some old fading celeb gets a few crap reviews. They always start blazing on about how 'the media has an agenda to get them' and the like, when the reality is that their new film/book/album whatever is just shit.

No matter who is in office the media is a joke. They twist everything around for their side of the fence. When have you seen Fox News praise a democrat or CNN praise a republican? This all started back when the radio emerged and is a lot worse these days. Do more research on a specific topic before siding with one media source especially when they are biased towards a specific party.

The media is just entertainment at this point in time.

How is it the "media's" job to praise any politician?

Rather than paint an entire industry, why not take issue with what is being said by one particular journalist or commentator?

Otherwise, you come across as lazy and paranoid.

Celebrities criticize cause they have Trump syndrome as well. They think they are above everyone, and that their opinion matters. What have they done for the world lately that they didn't get a tax break on? Also, they should run for office if they know it all. That worked out well for Arnold in California. lol

They are welcome to criticize and we can as well. We have that freedom in this country. :)

Good post, but Nixon lost the CA gubernatorial race to Pat Brown in 1962, who lost four years later to Reagan in 1966.

To reiterate: you're criticizing celebrities for voicing their opinion in an effort to support a celebrity who became president by voicing his.

If you flip between Fox News and CNN it's like entering two alternate realities.

I don't care about bias.  Nor should anyone.

What they should care about is whether what is being reported is factual, reasoned, and using information and arguments that hold up to scrutiny.

Trump is a shit person who has repeatedly demonstrated he's unfit for the office he serves.  No one can seriously argue otherwise.  Those who do do so out of tribe loyalty or some deep unseated need to piss on those they don't like or disagree with.  It would make zero sense for an independent press to not hold to account a man so unfit for office.  That's their job as spelled out by the Constitution.

It's insane to me that the term "Trump derangement syndrome" is levied against Trump critics when they seem to be the only ones seeing this charlatan for who he is.

Can we stop with the political references? I don’t see what any of this has to do with GNR releasing an album?

There are plenty of threads here that pertain to an album release. Axl Rose having a back and forth Twitter response with the Treasury Secretary seems like it should be discussion worthy

Biases in media will always exist and are necessary. The alternative to this is state run media. If you really don’t want to know the truth, by all means hope for that scenario

....well how about sourcing your news from impartial reputable sources?  Far easier to blame 'the media' whenever they point out that Trump is lying, and have the sheer audacity to back it up with facts and evidence I suppose.

All downhill since that pesky radio came along!  Ring back the donkey express!
