NITL live videos on youtube

Recommended Posts

Watching this as I type.  My first thought is that they put more effort into the video angles used and the editing with this round.  I don't recall seeing the video screens for any length of time previously - I appreciate that.   I really enjoyed the song selections and sound. I thought the performances were great all around.

Willis1988, I attributed that as an editing choice to showcase the main video screen and not really to avoid Axl close-ups.  I'm fairly confident in saying, home video feed and in stadium video feed are entirely different.  The in-stadium feed would be for the folks in attendance who can't see the fine detail (Axl close-up).  They wouldn't have any difficultly seeing the primary video screen with all the effects.

Some quotes from my girlfriend, who knows nothing much about GNR and is half-watching.....

"Why does he do that thing where he sounds like Mickey Mouse?"

"Why have they chosen Wichita Lineman to show? Do they play this every night?"

"They look very tired."

"This is better than that weird one in the Las Vegas casino you had on the other night"

"I don't understand this band at all, but they do make me laugh".

"Axl seems to have two modes, Mickey Mouse or the Cookie Monster".

Watching this stuff with people who aren't invested at all is pretty insightful, and we'll worth a go if you feel your GNR obsession needs a reality check!

She's not wrong, especially about them looking tired.

The band touring in 18 and 19 shouldnt have happened as they looked and sounded tired by this stage. I guess they couldnt say no to the money. The tour should have finished at t he end of the LA 17 dates. Work on new music then retour.

I agree.

So weird how it’s obviously the in show video board footage, but anytime it’s a close up of Axl they switch to that weird long distance shot of the stage. You can see the Axl close up on the two small video boards, and then they switch to Slash or someone else, and that is the next shot the video switches to.. makes me feel bad that Axl is so insecure about how he looks..

Well IF thos europe shows go ahead next year starting march, axl has 4 months to train and work on himself and make himself the best version of himself he can be.

Mexico early this year was the last date,  that makes it 12 months of band inactivity. I hope he has been putting his time to good use.

Jesus christ, where do I even start.

Okay, so Slash sounds he's playing through a tin box, not a big beefy tube amp or 6 like we know he is. Having the tone rolled off in Estranged was a damn mistake, he did not retain as much clarity or warmth as he used to. If anything, modern recording tech being too accurate has fucked his tone. Old microphones had character to them, this is just DI and is dry as FUCK.

Fortus was louder than Slash, it felt like listening to Live at the Roxy again. I don't mind 4tus' tone, but it needs more balancing.

I could only hear the treble end of Duff's bass, so it sounded like clangy bridge cables rather than a bass guitar.

Axl...if the meds thing is true, I understand that. Personal experience says that losing weight while on meds is a bitch. His voice is suited to Wichita Lineman. The rest needs recomposing in my opinion for the live shows. His range is gone, and it sucks to admit it, but he needs to work around that. I hope to god the Europe dates at least are canned next year. His voice needs to heal, like an actual wound. His singing technique physically hurts when I do it, but done right with rest is very easily manageable. In layman's terms, call your fucking coach Axl. More money is all well and good but it is never going to fulfill any musician the way writing does.

I can't hear Melissa or Dizzy except during Estranged.

Frank is just vibing.

Listening to frank on estranged makes me realise how different the skill level is between sorum on the original and frank live.

No, they definitely will not go ahead in March. I don't know where you live, but the situation regarding the measures here in central EU is still very harsh, new "waves" are expected (at least one or two), and there is no way in hell a 50 thousand crowds would be allowed in 3 or 4 months from now. Not to mention ticket sales, booking, and all the technical stuff around. It's not happening.

The real embarrassment is to put out material like this.

Who ever does the video and audio editing on these selects, needs to be kicked in the...*insert random bodyparts*...

You could, if you care, and put some effort into your job (@Fernando) do sooo much more on live material by doing a proper sound mixing job. Especially if there are month long gaps in between the uploads.

I just woke up and saw this, have my morning glass and listen to nite train 3 times in a row, it's killer, did you guys saw how happy is Axl? He gave us his best for that song alone, he still got it, no doubt about it! Thank you Ax you make my day! Later today I plan to go see Angus Young at his Holland residence I hope he is home!

I have to disagree with you regarding GNR sound, I wouldn't change a thing, this is how you hear the band live, I saw the many times from 2006 to 2018 and this is how they want us to hear them! In one word RAWGNR! OR Rock nfuckin roll or gnfnr

There are no dates in March? Tour is due to start in June.

My take on the selects is they are being released as fillers when the band is inactive due to Covid. They haven’t been recorded to be released professionally as a blu-ray. I personally would much rather have them than not.

I enjoy Axl’s performances on this. My take is the reason he doesn’t use rasp is actually to protect his voice so he’s able to tour for longer periods. We saw how he tackled AC/DC- when he did hire his old coach. Using the head (baby voice) takes the pressure off the throat & yes will sound a little like Micky..but it’s technique. There have been no cancelled shows. Look back at sweet child in 92...we might like that sound but it’s impossible to make without doing things that constrict the voice and cause damage. Compared to other lead singers I think Axl is doing great..I bet he can still achieve stunning results in the studio.

On his appearance..just get over it. He’s an ageing Rock star. He does 3 hour shows and is very active on stage. His build has been consistent..that’s him and his body now.

This and this, we should be greatful that we still see them perform for us, they didn't want our money, they have enough on their own, any time I get back home from a GNR concert I am in pure bliss and happiness for 1 month, not even my woman could get me that high, but we as fans we should respect them for performing our beloved songs night after night, who knows how this will last?but for this moment is still GNR, and they still have it, look at us in front rows, I bet u can see any of me or any of you down there

Good luck with the stalking. I hope for Angus Young's sake he's remembered to lock the doors.

If they don't want our money they're more than welcome to charge people less.

Bro I'm not going to stab him! And his house is a building so no one goes inside unless he open the doors

You don't think hanging around someone's house is a little....ummm.....odd?

Yeah could be, but this is what fans do, we like our musicians so why not pay them a visit, Jimmy page open the doors for his fans some years ago, Angus seems to be a nice person, I bet he will open if he is home

I don't see June happening either. Even if it does though, this will be the first GNR tour I'll be passing on, if things don't change.

Totally. I actually passed on this year regarding the ticket and was waiting it out – depending on what they would’ve played. Had the playlist been the same, I wouldn’t have bought one. I didn’t want to judge it by the two early shows though, I considered them mere openers, and the “brand new” schtick was only announced for the spring/summer gigs. But something is telling me it wouldn’t have been too different. Who knows – I guess we may see next year, with this extra time gap we’re having…

It really, really, really isn't what fans do.

It's what lunatics do.

I actually had tickets....but I don't anymore, as I've lost that small bit of faith I had, and finances have got a lot tighter. I'm fairly confident now it will be the same thing....and I wouldn't want to see that.

Trust me on this one. People hanging about outside celebrities houses hoping to gain access is absolutely fucking nuts.

I'm about as jealous of you as I am of that guy that recently got jailed for hanging around Taylor Swift's house!
