Just Found Out Guns N' Roses Were Paid...

Recommended Posts

...$1,000,000.00 In 1989 to play 4 Supporting shows with The Rolling Stones!

As someone who loves Guns N' Roses Triva/History I never knew that.

They Must have been Raking the $$ from all corners during 1989.

I believe, I might be wrong, that for all the Success during 1988, they didn't make any Money until 1989. I believe it was Duff who said that in a 1988 Magazine Interview.

Iirc the initial offer was much lower. But Guns was basically out of commission at the time. So Niven used that as leverage. These would be Guns 'comeback shows.'

Something like that at least.

Its also how Axl got the idea to blow all their cash on lavish back stage parties in the coming years - because the Stones were already doing huge business and had incredible back stage stuff going on.

The Stones recently released a concert vid from those shows that includes Izzy and Axl joining the Stones for Salt of the Earth.

It’s takes awhile for bands to make money. U2 didn’t start making real cash until after the Joshua tree album.

Suprised to hear that about U2. Before Joshua Tree they were doing pretty well selling Albums/Merch and doing World Tours.

Larry Mullen stated it in an interview. I think he means real cash. Like the millions. GNR are an anomaly in music history. I don’t think there has even been a band that blew up with their debut album and became global. For example it took both Metallica and U2 to become global after their fifth albums.

I see what mean you now. The Big Bucks!

Very True.

Took both Nirvana and Oasis with their Second Albums.

15 songs in 29 years. Ouch. With that perspective it really is disastrous.

It is, but it's interesting; the way people reacted back then, especially during the height of MTV, people were so much more reactive and cognizant of new acts people were. And also shows how huge GN'R was. They truly did rule the world of music for a little while, they were the last great American band

That recently released vid is from shows in Atlantic City.  The shows mentioned here for a million bucks were the four shows in LA.

Thanks for correction. Did Izzy and Axl guest in LA as well?

Well, the entire band opened for them in LA, along with the band Living Colour.  But no, I can't find anything indicating that they performed any songs with the Rolling Stones during those 4 nights.

Very cool of you to look it up a bit! I guess I figured you might just know, when I asked. Cheers.

As someone else pointed out, these appearances happened later. You can read about them here: 10. 1989: THINGS UNRAVEL - Page 2 (a-4-d.com)
