Thus far 2020 has killed-off Darth Vader, Bond, the Yorkshire Ripper and Maradona - to name just a few!

Interesting tie ins as Prowse was in Casino Royale and performed as a 'phone book ripper' called Jack the Ripper.

He was also one of the first actors to embrace appearing at comic cons - so from a certain point of view - he also helped mainstream cosplay culture. And I thank him for that too!

But yeah between 2020 and Kathleen Kennedy there aint gonna be no OT characters left!

****

His embodiment of Vadar will forever be the one striking fear as he stalks through my galaxy.

RIP

To be fair, it was time to move on from the OT characters anyways. The sequel trilogy was always gonna be their “farewell” no matter what. Even the original Lucas outlines for the sequels had Han and Luke both dying. Leia was supposed to live, but then Carrie’s real death in 2016 (another shitty year) put a stop to that, sadly...

Well, if thats the case, they didnt need to have them be an absentee father and a burnt-out Jedi before they killed them off!

On one hand I agree, but I also think the story coulda been more boring if Han was just a military leader and Luke was just a “super Jedi,” as expected. By the time the sequel trilogy came along, family drama had already become pretty “baked into” the dna of the franchise, despite it not being there initially (as I said in my blog). So now it’s kinda hard to suddenly imagine starwars (and particular the Skywalker saga) without any of the family drama aspects.

I hear ya. You make a good point about how family drama is part of the dna of the franchise. And Ive enjoyed you blog very much so far btw. I need to take some more time reading it when Im not otherwise distracted.

I think Han having grown into a present father would also be in keeping with the OTs archs, though. :shrugs:It doenst even seem like thats what fucked Ben up? Or the family drama could have been from master luke and his padawan Leia - the difficulties of that relationship is old school too. Maybe Luke says Leias not ready to train Rey? Anyways... I loved the fake out of Chewies death in TROS

I dont mind new characters at all. I like the disney era novels so currently my favourite Star Wars character is Eryka Quell (who? lol). I even read a comic about Anne Tico haha

I think the family drama in starwars just naturally tends to happen between different generations (father and son, uncle and nephew, etc.). Tho it is refreshing how Mando shows that there are such a thing as good dads in the starwars universe too lol.

I think when Ben Solo was a little kid his powers were already a bit out of control and he overheard Han and Leia calling him “a monster” behind his back. Also he saw them sending him to Luke shortly after as a form of abandonment.
