Actually, Ive read articles about how this song basically celebrated the end of people caring about the world, with Civil Rights and hippie progressivism being so widespread only shortly prior to this song. The idea being that people gave up on positive change, turned inwards and spent a few decades ignoring climate change. And that led to today, with consumerism running rampant and the ability to watch wars, live on CNN.
