I went with the 3 AFD5 options, because this band is quite polarising for me - I love that original era pretty much the perfect RnR band to me, but post 1990 ranges from meh to really don’t like to I can’t even be bothered to listen. I did go watch on the UYI tour, but wouldn’t go see them again unless it was the 5 original.

The only post 1990 thing I have watched  multiple times is HoF performance and in particular SCOM - it’s the only time it has sounded right to me. I think that was down to the Duff / Adler foundation. I think it would have been even better with Axl/Izzy there as well.

In a perfect world, I’d have the original 5 get back together, write together and record an EP worth of material and then tour indoor shows kept to 2 hours max (I hate stadiums and I hate long shows).

Asking out of curiosity, what do you think the original 5 could write together?
'Cause "Daddies" are probably not alive anymore to watch porno and "Rocket Queens" are all having grandchildren by now. LA scene is full of Justin Biebers and K-POP. There's literally no LA scene.

Imagine Axl writes another song like "turn around bitch I got a use for you". It will look like a shameful accidental youtube upload by a drunk pervert grandpa.

The fact that he still sings these things live is already awkward!

I'm trying not to sound arrogant, but this whole "original 5 get back together" makes no sense to me from whatever aspect I'm thinking.

I would prefer to hear the follow-up to Chinese Democracy. Based on the locker leaks I am sure there is a lot of great music there that I would like to hear in a finalized form. Especially State of Grace and Quick Song (Bucket!!).

Second to that would probably be the AFD5 making new music together - just because I am curious what that would be so many years after. What could Izzy and Axl come up with? A modernized form of Appetite, maybe more political in nature but still the same soundscape. Could be cool.

Then comes new music from this lineup. Trying to mesh together the various strands of the GN'R fabric - old Appetite, diverse UYI, and the more modern sounds on CD. It could be the natural evolutionary step in the history of GN'R and maybe in a way legitimize what has gone on before.

Finally, this lineup re-working unreleased songs off the Chinse Democracy sessions. There are great songs there that needs to come out, but I am not a fan of another re-recording of songs from the late 90s/early 00s, I am not a fan of another layer of guitars, another drummer re-creating drum patterns, etc. The songs needs less work, not more.

I don't care for more touring. UYI box set over that.

It's a really good question - and yeah I agree there are some things that don't age so well !! (I love AC/DC but am I the only one that finds it really creepy a 60 year old man running around in a school boys uniform ?!?)

I also realise that it could be a huge disappointment - I'm under no illusions that you aren't going to see the same energy or attitude that the band had 30 years ago..

But I do think the combination is what works - that band was all about balance for me and when they lost Adler that was the beginning of the balance shifting, then Niven, then Izzy and suddenly its all lopsided with a particular personality & style dominating. Lyrics aside I think they could still bring it musically, most likely not the same energy but I think the music will go over well - even if I think about the various solo releases and I imagine Slash elevating some of Izzy's song foundations with Duff/Steve bringing the groove and the ultra interesting parts they always seemed to put together, I start imagining yeah this would sound awesome.

With the lyrics even in the old days not all their lyrics were so 'youthful' for lack of a better term - I think that is what gave them depth. Patience for instance I think is great lyrically and could still work. I'd imagine they could go in a direction of the Zeppelin vein who started out in a similar, rawer way to GNR but quickly evolved. I think the main thing is it would have to be real & relevant.

Basically I think the best chance of something interesting coming out will be with the original 5 - but only if they all have input both writing and recording - the creative balance needs to be there. (If it turns out like Kiss did when they brought back Ace & Peter but barely let them contribute it'll end up the same way - generic, watered down crap and wasted potential).

Call it a day.

Whats the reason ? Axls voice is shot and never coming back ? Axl and Slash are too fat and you are scared one of them might try out the bike shorts again ? No hope of putting out something decent ? No matter whatever they put out it can't be worth the wait its been already ? They've been in a steady decline since they first emerged and you can't stand to watch it anymore ? They always sucked ? All of the above ?

The original 5 have a lot more to offer than the lyrics to It's So Easy.

The problem isn't the non-existing L.A.-scene. First of all they have to convince Izzy and then we would have to wait and see if they'd be able to write and create such quality music as they once did. That's the biggest problem IMO.

I'm a GNR fan. Of course I would love classic GNR music. Why should I want something else?

The live performances have been consistently getting worse for the last few years. Considering what they charge for a ticket it's no wonder certain markets werent selling pre-covid.

The vibe I get from the entire camp is "Who gives a fuck?"

Guns N' Roses died long ago, it's just too stubborn to lie down.

I voted for new music from this lineup, reworked CD II and/or original CD II as is. I really like CD and the musical direction that Axl was going, so anything that cames up from these sessions would be nice.

An AFD5 record deosn't sound that good to me, because the circumstances are totally different now. It was all about being raw, and young. I don't want them to make music about that being slow and old 😅

I only voted for new music, because a) Axl won’t release the untouched CD remainder now (maybe in the future?), as it would get mercilessly compared with whatever they’ll release together with Slash etc., and I think he’s had enough of similar comparison crap ever since like 2001; b) as much as it would be miraculous to see the original AfD 5, it just wouldn’t look as some perhaps think it would. The 80s are gone, the guys have gotten older, and you just can’t revive your childhood. And the novelty/miraculousness would wear out soon anyway. One gig? Sure, awesome. But not a tour or any other longer enterprise; c) I actually forgot and could have voted for the UYI boxset as well, that shouldn’t interfere with anything, I guess. Also, I don’t think they should call it quits, because if Axl doesn’t overdo it and only tours for about a year and a half, he’s fine. This time, he wrecked himself with AC/DC and the endless NITL, but he was great in 2016, as we all know.

Gosh, there is so much ageism around here, remember U2, Stones,, AC/DC (new album), Eric Clapton, Depeche Mode, Ozzy etc  On my degree course we had a 60 year old lady who joined in with us easily and contributed as much as anyone if not more, one just saw past her age.  So I believe they have life left in them yet rock4

There's only two options. I voted for new .music from this band.

The AFD band is done, and I loved that line up, but it should be left alone. Numerous reasons, but NO 1 is the disappointment of NITL, lets keep a little 'what if' fantasy alive, in this case it's better than the reality. NO 2  they are not capable of living up to the mythology of the 80s era. No 3 is that even a good record from them wouldn't be enough, it literally has to be as good or better than AFD,  and that's just impossible giving everybody's attachment and sentimentality towards the songs on the AFD album.

New music or farewell tour or bust.

So looking at the results.... a couple of interesting things :

1) The thing the band is most likely to do (ie keep touring current lineup), got the lowest support. Well aside from the cartoon option which was a bit of a joke - a sad, sad joke given they actually did this partially. I do like that someone voted for it though !

2) The headline numbers are easy enough to read, but if you group different categories :

i) Touring in some form got 18% (thanks to AFD5 options)

ii) New music in some form got 66%, easily the most desired (CD2 reworked being the least desirable)

iii) CD2 interest at 26%

iv) AFD5 doing something together comes in at 31% (with AFD5 + extra members being lowest)

Maybe I'll run this like a survivor series and see where it ends up......

For me I'd take anything with the AFD5, mostly out of curiousity about what they'd come up with.

I'm definitely an Izzy diehard so take my opinion with a huge grain of salt, but I just think he writes the most relatable songs. I'd much prefer a simple RNR song about travelling or some shit, compared to the songs on Chinese Democracy or the locker leaks, where I just can't easily relate to the lyrics, nor do I find any of the tunes memorable.

It might not be considered "genius" level songwriting by the Axl diehards, but to this day I can easily hum the tune to Baby Rann (and dozens of Izzys solo songs) and I know for a fact that theyd be killer if it were Axl screaming those lyrics instead of Izzys (sometimes) undecipherable midwestern accent. I literally couldn't hum the tunes from a single song out of the 100 or so locker leaks, I can barely remember the song titles.

Take it back to basics. A catchy tune written by Izzy, Axl screaming like a banshee about some bitch that did him wrong, and drop a Slash solo in there after the second verse and they're shitting money again like the good old days :D

I would love that approach more than any other option.

I think Slash's playing would also benefit alot from that, more tasty, more cool.
