John Mayer - „Sob Rock“ out now

New John Mayer album is out now, thoughts so far?

I‘m a bit disappointed sadly.. the singles  he released over the last two years are the strongest songs imo, the new songs are not as good. Last train home for me is the best song on the album. Til the right one comes and shot in the dark are okay, the other new songs are quite forgettable. But maybe I need some more time to get into them 🤷🏼‍♂️

I was completely oblivious of John Mayer til I recently saw him playing A Song For You. Talented guy.

My two favorite cuts by him are Vultures and Slow Dancing In A Burning Room. Check them out if you have a chance.

Cheers, really like both of those.

There's two versions of Vultures. One is a studio version, the other is a live version from an album called Where The Light Is.

Not sure which version you checked out, but if it wasn't the live one, you might wanna take a listen. That version is awesome.

I'd listened to the studio version. I like both pretty equally tbh.

Never cared much for his solo work, too slick for my taste, but the stuff he did with Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino is excellent. He's probably one of the best guitarists of this generation.

Neon is such a cool guitar part

Dude, check out the solo on the Where The Light Is version of Vultures. He does that thing where he plays rhythm and lead at the same time. So cool.

Skip to 3:16 and listen to that bass line! All three of them in full force

In my previous band we used to cover this song... so fun to play!

Another Kind Of Green is another great tune from the Trio. You can really hear the Hendrix/SRV influences.

He just announced a new tour, but no Detroit date yet. I may drive to Chicago to catch him again.
