Machine Gun

Recommended Posts

As you probably remember, 'Machine Gun' was one of the song titles from those Duff/Izzy tapes recorded in 1995 (also including 'Toothpuller', later mentioned by Dizzy in an interview).

Earlier today I was checking the setlist.fm page for the GNR concert in Mexico in March 2020, the one where Hardschool was soundchecked, and I saw this:

Now, as far as I know, setlist.fm is like Wikipedia and anyone can edit and write what they want. so theoretically I could go there and write that they played Don't Damn Me or covered Cannibal Corpse's Fucked With A Knife, for what it's worth. That said, has anyone heard this rumor before and is there any truth to it? I mean, even if they actually played parts of an unknown song during that soundcheck (which could be theoretically possible), how would we even know it's Machine Gun?

Perhaps just jamming on the Hendrix tune during soundcheck?

This. You can actually hear Frank's drums from Machine Gun on one of the videos from the rehearsal when the guy is walking out of the venue. It's the same fill from the Hendrix's song intro.

I just listened to the clip of the Hardschool soundcheck. (Which you can easily find via Google search) Man, Axl sounded rough.

Do you think Hardschool would have made the setlist if the village leaks didn't occur? I would say no.

Hell no would be my answer.

Who knows. Yet he sounded good on PTU at the same sound check. TBH - even if it was rough I’d still want to hear it played live.

Yay. Another cover in the set list 🙄

Haha to be fair I imagine this was purely just a jam from Slash - can't imagine them playing this in the full show. If I recall correctly I think Machine Gun is a 10-12 min song!

Ah fair enough. At this point I don’t even really mind. I would pay good money for a new Guns N Roses’ album even if it was just all cover songs and zero originals. 😊

I must be the only one who thought Axl sounded pretty good on that Hardschool rehearsal. HS, Pretty Tied Up and Think About You sounded damn good to me.

Pretty Tied Up sounded glorious, especially the verses in his lower range. Hardschool was ropey, but we're basing that off of 7 seconds. I'll wait and hear what it's like when they eventually unveil it. About time Think About You was brought back too! In my opinion, the underrated gem on Appetite.
