I think it's important when people like gene simmons say rock is dead, they're not saying there isn't good rock music being made (coz there is) it's just not culturally important and not as popular as the heydey. rock isn't dead if you want to listen to new good rock music. Rock is dead if you expect a band as big as led zeppelin GnR acdc nirvana etc to break into the mainstream, be magnets for papperazzi and have significant influence on culture again. So it shouldn't be taken literally I would take what Gene Simmon says with a grain of salt. Dee Snider recently said that he loves Gene Simmons, but what Gene Simmons is saying about rock being dead is self serving and undermines the younger rock bands. Nintari
If rock were dead, no one would be creating it or playing it. But millions all across the world are. Hell, one peek into any large guitar store and you can automatically see just how alive it still is--even with the coveted teenage demographic. Rock hasn't died. It's just gone underground until the music business can figure out a way to make money again. That's the only reason the suits decided to put the genre on ice for awhile. They weren't making any money, and when you can't make any money, you hedge your bets only on the surest horses, which, in the case of the music industry, is pop music. But rock is far from dead. Just be patient.

RussTCB
There was also a LOT more going on in 91 outside of rock. Just dropped our latest episode this morning. It's the first of two parts discussing what an amazing year in music 1991 was
