Gnrcane
I don't think they were there on the NITL tour but I noticed at the show I attended and in videos that there is plexiglass around Frank's cymbals on this tour. Does anybody know why? I don't think there have been reports that cymbals have COVID so I assume there is some acoustic reason for it but I can't think of what it could be. Gibson87
It's there so that the drums don't overpower the other instruments in the mix.
jamillos
I ceased to play drums 20 years ago and I can tell you I've never heard of this. Wow.
DPR714
Also if there is bleed from the cymbals into other nearby mics. Sometime a full drum shield is used to help with stage volume and the same sound bleeding issue.
jonah
You don’t usually see it in big arena rock shows but you’ll see it all the time in acoustic/small venue shows. While I haven’t watched many clips of this tour so far. The ones I did see I thought the stage seemed small. Probably doing it on this tour as the dizzy/frank/Melissa area is much more compressed then in previous tours
guitarpatch
What others have said here. Bleed issues in mics, sound isolation, and maybe to keep the stage volume down for other members

I've seen bands do that around drums in small venues or even on stages set up on the Vegas Strip but I don't think I've ever noticed it in a stadium or arena (that's not to say it has never been done before). Popular Post PeterNorth
Because he can’t play the Appetite songs as well as Steven, so they are trying to shield the audience and the other original band members as best they can?
Ixtlan
Does anybody know who the 3 guys behind Frank are? They just sit in folded chairs. One was in his phone for most of the show.
rocco
Like the others said, it‘s to prevent the cymbals from bleeding into other mics. Same thing with the drummer from Ghost. They also have 2 keyboardists standing next to both sides of the drums, probably that‘s why.

James Bond
The glass is set to an internal BPM meter. If Frank plays faster than the current tempos, it shatters. Melissa's well being depends on his consistency.
Tom2112
It's to prevent the cymbals going into the other mics onstage. Pretty common these days, SMKC do it too.
DefinitelyInThisLifetime
It’s to add the element of Guns into Guns N’ Roses by making him sit behind bulletproof plexiglass to stop fanboys ripping on him because he’s not a different human being.
