Brothers and sisters, I come before you seeking guidance.  I promised myself that, after seeing the NILT show twice already, and paying...a lot...for it in 2016, I would not attend another GNR show until an album was, at the very least, announced.

They have obviously not announced a proper album yet, but with the release of the controversial "Absurd" single and with Hard Skool (heavily rumored to debut in Chicago) also very likely imminent, I'm at a bit of a crossroads.

Pit tickets have been discounted to $89.50 for Wrigley Field.  That's not terrible.

What say you, should I stay or should I go?

Heavily rumoured? More like fans talking themselves into it with wishful thinking.

Go if you have the surplus cash and want a good night out. But if you're gonna go and then be pissed when they don't do Hard Skool (which let's face it, the odds aren't looking great) then save your money.

Good point.  The odds certainly aren't in our favor, if that's what we're going by.

Perhaps our only saving grace is the expert level trolling job Axl did by releasing Silkworms as the first single of original music with Slash since Jurassic Park was in theaters. It shows he's literally capable of anything.  I'm still not sure if that's good or bad for us.

The question is: why wouldn't you wanna go? What's the alternative for that day? Sit on the couch?

Not wrong!

Let me answer your question this way: I had so much fun in Detroit that if I had any desire to drive 8 hours round trip on Thursday, I'd be standing right next to you in the pit.

I think that translates to a 3 out of a possible 4 star review.  Which ain't bad!

Haha. I had a WAY better time at the Detroit show than I expected. Honestly, the drive is the only thing stopping me from going to Chicago.

I wouldn't be expecting HS or anything different for that matter. I just had enough fun in Detroit to where I'd pay $89 for pit to see the show again.

Having said that, my wife has gone with me every time we've driven to Chicago for shows and she wouldn't be able to do it this time. So I'd have to leave work at 4, drive 4 hours to the stadium see the show, then drive 4 hours back home and sleep some before work on Friday. In the past, one of us has handled one of the drives so the other could sleep.

If it weren't for that one (big) obstacle, I'd totally go again. And this is coming from a guy who only went to the show that was 20 minutes from my front door because I was given tickets.

Yeah, it'd be me and the wife if I did go.  She was at one of the two 2016 shows I attended (Vegas) plus she was also there back in the day for the 2011 Chi Dem tour. She literally doesn't get why this is even something I'm considering spending our money on. That's not an exaggeration, she's legitimately stumped as to why I keep bringing this show up.

$90 for pit isn't too bad, honestly if they were playing near me I'd consider getting whatever the cheapest tickets are (maybe $30-40 on show day?), pre-gaming while WVH is playing, and just going to hear You're Crazy, Absurd and some acoustic songs while drinking with some friends.

Assuming there's no travel/hotel costs, fuck it, why not. Be sure to stream it on facebook and yell HARD SKEEEEEWL after every song.

It’s not even a question IMO mate - go to the gig and rock the hell out. If the last 18 months have taught us anything it’s that we just don’t know what’s around the corner.

Add in the fact the band is in great shape just now - go for it.

If it's cheap and not inconvenient then yes. Pre pandemic I'd have probably said no but we've been able to do very little for near on 2 years now so go and celebrate the return of big events and still being alive.

By most accounts the band are sounding decent and having fun with the shows which is a bonus.

AND you might be one of the first to hear HS live*

*this is not a promise, don't hold me to it.

This is a goooooood point.

All of my favorite bands are all dinosaurs now.  And the pandemic situation has exactly gotten better. Well, it did until it didn't. Who knows if this is their last big tour?

Oh, my wife felt the same way about nearly every show I took her to from 2006 through 2016 haha. She went to the casino downtown instead of this last one.

When I excitedly told her pit tickets had been discounted for Guns at Wrigley Field, her immediate response was "I mean...Doesn't that tell you something?" I opened and then quickly shut my mouth. I had nothin.

We should start working on a book together "When Your Wife Has Learned Her GN'R Lesson And You Haven't"

I forgot, she also waited until midnight for Axl to come onstage at the House Of Blues for the UCAP tour in 2012. She gets a lifetime pass to talk shit.

Also, I call dibs on the “Feeling utterly deflated after having her shrug emotionlessly after playing her Atlas Shrugged” chapter. It’s a pain I need to purge.
