RIP Meatloaf (1947-2022)

Fuck, this sucks. If you've seen him in the last months, you knew he wasn't that healthy. But I always read about his plans for 2022, he wanted to get back on stage and has recorded a couple of songs just last week.

This one hits hard for me. Really admired his music and stage persona.

So long, Meat. Thank you for everything.

Meatloaf was awesome.  I grew up on listening to Bat Out of Hell during long road trips with my family.  I think that album holds up against almost any other album that came prior or after.

Once I got the basics of piano down I asked my piano teacher to get me the sheet music for two songs: November Rain and I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That).  Sadly, they don't make music like that anymore.

A few years later my brother and I bought my parents tickets to see Meat Loaf at the closest casino.  Recently we bought them tickets to the Bat Out Of Hell musical.

My Mom turned 70 last year and I was going to buy a Cameo birthday greeting from Meatloaf for her birthday party, but because of Covid we decided to hold a smaller get together and didn't end up going through with the Meatloaf cameo appearance.  He was one of my Mom's favourite artists so it would have been cool to surprise her with a video birthday greeting.  Oh well.

A true legend.

Rockin’ the fuck out of Bat out of Hell right now. I listened to its sequel so much when it came out in 1993. It’s so weird, man. I hadn’t listened to Meat Loaf in a while, but I randomly threw on “I Would Do Anything for Love” on Thursday night/Friday morning around 3 a.m.  Was sad to see news of his death when it broke a few hours later.

Strange, this life. I was polluted, singing Meat Loaf at the top of my lungs at 3 a.m. while, unbeknownst to me, the man was lying down dying in a hospital bed.

Rest in Paradise, my friend. Thanks for the beautiful songs.

Yeah. Pulled out my Meat Loaf Live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra DVD and watched it for the last couple of hours. So great. And what I didn't realize before, it has an audio commentary with Meat Loaf. Great stuff.

That's one hell of a concert. The voice is excellent, he is in top form and the setlist is fantastic. Not a single weak song from start to finish. I love "Out of the Frying Pan" from that show.

Yeah. Him, the band, the orchestra, the songs. Top notch. And I really love "Life is a lemon..." that song just rocks.
