Dj on the other hand looked like a teen goth and struggled to accurately play a lot of the material. I'll take the chicken bucket any day. I do agree with DJ's 'GNR should be a dirty rock band' idea in general... but I think there's room for the more whacky stuff too, especially when you consider what Axl looked like during the Bucket years. 1 1
Popular Post Gunner55
Given Buckets insane level of talent I couldn't give any less of a shit what he looked like. Yes he was much more technically sound than Slash which kinda went against everything the old Guns stood for, but like you said he could play the material blindfolded. I do believe if Axl wanted to legitimately push GNR forward in the 2000s Buckethead absolutely could have been that crutch to lean on. Fans would have taken to him imo.

Popular Post El Guapo
DJ is an idiot. He was, by far, the uncoolest guy in GnR, ever. He doesn't get Buckethead, he's too dumb to understand the concept of being cool. He should just shut up and sell his stupid products to even dumber teenage girls or whoever follows him these days. 8
Sweersa
I was one of the few who liked DJ. Can't believe he trash talked the best guitarist GN'R ever had. 3

Looks are not everything. Buckethead is one hell of a player, so if he wore a table cloth poncho it shouldn't make any difference. 1

Popular Post Stay.Of.Execution
Buckethead was the best thing that happened to GNR post slash. Ashba was the worst thing.
Popular Post Blackstar
The problem is not that he thinks Buckethead didn't fit GnR. That's just an opinion and one that many other people had as well (a "guy with a bucket on his head" didn't fit what people had known as GnR) while other people had a different opinion. The problem is that he thinks that he (DJ Ashba) brought back the "reckless rock and roll vibe of what Slash was about" (like "yeah, Axl and I got in a fight in a bar; and we're very dangerous because we change the setlist - oh, and I play with a cigarette hanging from my mouth") 10

Also, is it just me or is Ashba talking a lot more lately? Feel it's been way too often recently he's been reminding us all that (in his view, which hey, could very well be true) he was supposed to be with GNR still. Doesn't he have his solo material to be running with? Edited January 24, 2022 by Gunner55 Thinking of DJ. Ranting.

cineater
Bucket took a minute to get use to but god what a guitar player. DJ didn't invent the game but you mention GNR and it's click bait to promote what you are doing. Slash is doing the same thing at the moment. Can't fault them for working their business.
mystery
Wasn't it reported that Buckethead got kind of bullied by other band members in the early 2000's or am I misremembering?

Popular Post YOUCOULDBEMINE.
I'm still thankful for Buckethead's TWAT solo, the song does nothing for me until his solo starts. Also, his Nightrain solo was pretty fucking awesome as well. DJ couldn't bend a note even if his life depended on it. He made Robin's This I Love solo sound generic as hell. Never forgave him for that. Bucket was a better fit for what Axl wanted to do with CD than Bumblefoot was. I like the guy and he is a good guitarist, but his style is way different.

Really all of NuGNR’s history was just a bunch of boys competing for Daddy Axl’s attention. 3 hours ago, Gibson87 said: I think that was BBF Oops accidentally quoted you twice, sorry. 4 hours ago, mystery said: Wasn't it reported that Buckethead got kind of bullied by other band members in the early 2000's or am I misremembering? Stress Fracture
Quote I wanted to get in there and try to do whatever I could do to get justice, bring back that reckless rock and roll vibe of what Slash was all about and GUNS N' ROSES was all about. I can’t be bothered to write a snarky comment about that. It’s just delusional BUT he definitely was trying to emulate Slash. That much is true.

Popular Post Pele
Buckethead fitted perfectly with the intriguing, reclusive, mysterious, perfectionist, genius that a lot of us thought Rose might have been back in 2000. DJ Ashba fits perfectly with the reality that he turned out to be.
