Imagine, just for a moment, Axl says ok people pick a song or two and we gonna play it in concert and in the year 2022 you guys REALLY would want lyrics like:

I agree that Breakdown has better lyrics than Pretty Tied Up, but a song is more than just it's lyrics.

Breakdown has an interesting song structure, but it doesn't really have great memorable riffs if you ask me.

For me Pretty Tied Up is instrumentally pretty much Rock n' Roll perfection.

I like Breakdown in theory more than I actually like it in practice. It's a good song, but it doesn't get me pumped like Pretty Tied Up. Even emotionally songs like Estranged and Yesterdays touch my soul more than Breakdown.

But these are subjective things. I might like Breakdown more if I liked country music more. And I do actually like the song, but not as much as these other remaining songs.

I understand it's all just a silly little game to pass some time of no news round here...but...sorry...I just have to stand up here. [...]

You're just picking a random section of the lyrics though. Personally I love PTU, it's a song about the craziness of the lives they were living and how absurd it had all become...

Once there was this rock n' roll band
Rollin' on the streets
Time went by and it became a joke
We just needed more and more fulfilling... uh-huh
Time went by and it all went up in smoke

It's funny, self mocking, and the truth. A moment of genius from Izzy, who perhaps felt the band could fall apart at any moment.

Compared to....

There goes the Challenger being chased
By the blue blue meanies on wheels
The vicious traffic squad cars are
After our lone driver
The last American hero
The electric sitar
The demi-god
The super driver of the golden west!
Two nasty nazi cars are close behind
The beautiful lone driver
The police cars are getting closer-closer
Closer to our soul hero in his soul mobile yeah baby!
They about to strike, they gonna get him, smash! rape!
The last beautiful free soul on this planet
But it is written if the evil spirit
Arms the tiger with claws
Brahman provided wings for the dove
Thus spake the super guru"
"Did you hear that"

What does any of this even mean? :shrugs: I actually think Breakdown is a cool song, but it definitely falls apart for me at the end.

It's a quote from Vanishing Point, no?

I have no idea, if thats a movie I've never seen it :) I quite like Breakdown, I was just countering adamsapple's point asking how anyone could prefer PTU over Breakdown, just trying to show what I like about PTU and what I dislike about Breakdown
