Lyrically, what would you say is the best Guns song.

Estranged first, then Coma.

Coma is such an underrated gem that people rediscovered cause of the NITL.

Never understood the love for coma. The ending part is great but the 1st half is very meh.

If you rip out the music and just focus on the lyrics, Which song would you say is the strongest by Guns?

Personally i would have to go Rocket Queen simply for the last part (I see you standin', Standin on your own...)

Oh My God

Locomotive is the gold standard IMO. Always wondered if the song was about GN'R/Slash/the music industry in general rather than a relationship with a woman. Amazing lyrical imagery throughout the song and the ending is just as evocative musically as the rest of the song is lyrically.

Special mentions - Don't Damn Me, TWAT and Breakdown

hmmm... depends the record:
AFD- Rocket Queen

Lies-Patience

UYI- Coma/Estranged

CD-Prostitute/TWAT/Catcher

outside of any record/Leaks-Perhaps

Interesting that out of the 5 albums, 3 are closers. Would you say that some of their best songs are closers?

I believe the lyrics on a majority of their songs are very good. Both AXL and IZZY were very gifted in that regard. Even if others don't see it.

So it's very hard to narrow them down to just a few, let alone just one.

Like my favorite GN'R songs, the list changes by the second, minute, hour, day, week and year.

Off the top of my head, I'd name these among my consistent favorites  (not in order of preference): Breakdown, Don't Cry (orig.), Right Next Door to Hell, Garden Of Eden, Don't Damn Me, Rocket Queen, Sweet Child, Coma, Sorry, The Blues (SOD).

Pose the same question again tomorrow and I might provide a slightly different answer....

-Don’t Damn Me

-Locomotive

-November Rain (simple, but beautiful)

People get way too hung up pointing out perceived “filler” or “production issues” IMHO. The Illusions are peak Axl Rose in virtually every way (and the band ain’t too shabby either).

The correct answer is Breakdown.

As a kid I used to love the "funny how everything was roses, when we held on to the guns"-line from Breakdown but the older I get the more I cringe at it. It's gotten to the point that the line ruins the entire song for me.

The part of Breakdown I never got was the very final bit:

But it is written if the evil spirit
Arms the tiger with claws
Brahman provided wings for the dove
Thus spake the super guru"
"Did you hear that"

Yeah it makes no sense, I can only assume it was included because Axl liked Vanishing Point a lot

She's a cornchucker
A real butt fucker
Gonna stick my dick way up her ass
Cornchucker
(I like the way your eyes roll up in the back of your head)
A real buttfucker
Gonna watch my dick
As I make her butt pucker

Cornchucker
A real buttfucker
Gonna stick my dick
Right up her ass

She's a cornchucker
A real buttfucker
Gonna wash my dick
(Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!)
After she makes me buttfuck her

... *sigh* So deep. Always makes me tear up.

Estranged is the obvious choice, always loved this song from the first time hearing hit, I didn't really get the lyrics until I was much older (not a lyric guy), of course it completed my 'I have a lot in common with Axl' notions😂 . Yesterdays is another good one. Dust N Bones too "Time's short your life is your own and in the end we're just dust n bone" is not exactly the most original lyric but I love it.

I don't know, I like the majority of GNR's lyrics, even the ones that get torn to shreds here, like This I Love and If The World and Street Of Dreams. Who doesn't like a good heartbreak song?
