Popular Post Bitchisback
It's just funny the how the narrative of Axl rose and this band has competley turned around since slash returned. Axl went from being the joke of the music industry to straight up legend status again. Signing for AC/DC, playing stadiums, collaborating with people like Pink, Dave Grohl and Underwood. This stuff didn't happen in 2012. Seeing Axl up there he just looked really happy and looked like he was having a lot of fun. He sounded really good and it was fun to see. 10 years ago when I was in my 20s i was embarrassed to tell people GnR was my favorite band because they were such an easy joke at the time. Not anymore though

I'm a fan since I was 9. now I'm 40. And I'm glad to see him still on stage. Please already stop this Axl shape and voice bashing. He's not as good, as he once was? Yeah. But that's live. Let's just enjoy him, still having fun in three hours plus concerts! I'm very grateful, that he's still performing. You're right, and perhaps i was a bit too harsh, but i really wouldn't mind if Axl dropped his tone a bit more to sing it easier. He just can't hit the notes as powerful with the tone/voice he uses on SCOM.

jekylhyde
When the band is on tour, watching Youtube-videos (instead of seeing them live) slowly becomes a bit "whatever, man", but surprise appearances like these are really fun!
koldbeer2
It was perfectly listenable, sure its nowhere near what Axl would have been capable of doing even in 2016 BUT I wasn't cringing throughout it and at least he basically was able to keep up vocally. He looked pretty decent, I think its a look that would really suit Axl as well as a aging rocker. Also interesting to see Axl slightly change up his phrasing on this song to reflect the parts Carrie was singing. Finally its just cool to see Axl getting respected for the rock legend that he is. They way the crowd reacted when Axl was introduced and then started singing proves that. Whilst they were only at the top for probably a 5-6 year period there were very few bands in history who could compete with the sheer number of hits in that 87-93 period.
TheGeneral
The first few words of SCOM were actually something rather "new" vocally and it sounded really good IMO. He still mickey'd, but it was with a natural rasp that didn't sound so forced and painful. Sadly he went back to his old style seconds later. If he were able to do that on all songs, I don't think people would complain. But there's probably a reason why he switched back so quickly. yourcrazy
Good to see Axl showing up and doing things like this. Not bad sounding either. I definitely wouldn’t have expected this. The crowd had to love it
YOUCOULDBEMINE.
Amazing how Axl always give that extra push when he's performing with other artists. He showed up when Duff joined on stage in 2010, again with AC/DC, the start of the reunion in 2016 and now this. It's still not really good but he's giving it his best shot. At least he's having fun.

Not anymore though Big difference is Axl being open to these things. Had he approached Carrie underwood in 2012 to duet it would have been a yes then too. Had he reached out to the Foo fighters and said let's play a show together and jam on a song, it would have been a yes. Axl wasn't up for that stuff OR he wasn't being put in positions by his management that facilitated such things. His perception has greatly changed though, agreed. I would actually say that the tide had already started to turn by 2014. Getting voted no 1 for his voice, starting to show up more consistently etc. But it wasn't until ACDC that he really rebuilt the bridges. Completely accidentally he repaired his image, something nobody would have thought possible a few years earlier. Happy for him, happy for guns fans. Just wish all this didn't coincide with me waning as a gnr due to creative inactivity. Edited May 2, 2022 by Tom2112

Fronting two of the biggest bands in the world while sounding amazing brought him automatically to 'legend status' again. And all the confidence that he gained in recent years to go out and do stuff like this, all originated from that year. It can probably only be compared to 2006, with the new look and the new voice. Axl was everywhere that year (but only for a couple of months IIRC).

El Guapo
That's probably the best he can do now regarding the vocals, I agree it's time to stop complaining. That being said, I don't think I'd pay big money ever again on a GnR show. It's just not good enough to my ears, but so what. Maybe we get some nice studio work someday which is not warmed up Chinese leftovers from yesteryear.

Locke
I'm not a country music fan and so I have limited knowledge of Carrie Underwood. But, man, did this make me happy. She's such a big fan that she labeled this the greatest night of her life. This seemed like a dream come true for her. Here's hoping she'll pay it forward someday for an artist who adores her work. Loved it.

Apparently it was well known behind the scenes that if anything he should have changed his name to Mike Underwood. Apparently she called the shots in that marriage.
