This is a GNR forum and we're talking about Axl's performance. If you think the quality of his voice is irrelevant you're fucking mental. It makes me wonder if DJ Ashba sounded like shit out of respect for Slash.

His vocal performance is irrelevant under those particular circumstances. I say this as someone who actually thought Axl sounded okay here.... to say "his vocal performance doesn't matter in a live concert people paid money to see, because it isn't his band playing" is just furthering my long-standing evidence you are either a secret TB member or think Axl Rose is an anagram for Jesus Christ Edited May 5, 2022 by WhazUp
Popular Post Malcolm Malcolm
I don't often do this because I respect some of your legitimate criticisms down the years, but this is fucking ridiculous. For an off the circuit unwarmed up sixty year old Axl Rose to do a younger artist a favour like that and turn in a performance of that quality in the original key deserves nothing but respect. He was in cracking shape, well turned out and hit all his notes with rasp where it mattered. He has done far worse in the middle of major tours. Have you not seen what is going on with Jon Bon Jovi?! FFS people, be realistic. The man is happy and healthy and hitting original keys in pensionable age. I completely agree with your criticisms about new material and the inaccurate dripfeed of information regarding that, but this is miles wide of the mark. He looks ready for GNR, and that's not something we or any fan of a vintage frontman can really take for granted.
Fanboy
All I saw is Axl made Carrie Underwood's dream comes true, and she went from country superstar to an Axl Rose fangirl having a blast, and probably didn't give a fck about his voice.
Nice Boy
It’s not a particularly good performance from him tbh but I wouldn’t expect it to be at this stage. It’s only carried (pardon the pun) by the fact that her vocal layer masks / supports his. He does look well though.

I wonder how these things come about. Was he in the vincinity and she just asked him? She ask beforehand whether he would come? If so, how many times does that happen and why did he just decide to do it? Is he a fan? Either way, it was cool seeing him out there. He doesn’t seem like a big country fan, and certainly not a fan of the current bands. I think I heard they met at the band’s 2016 Nashville concert- the one where It was rumored that Izzy came to town for and then decided not to play. Chris Stapleton was the opener. If she was at the Vegas show in 2019, I’m sure she attended to a meet and greet or band after-party. Axl says “I saw on YouTube where you’ve been doing my songs at your shows” Carrie replies “I would die if you would join me on stage the next time I come to LA”. Axl staring at her legs says “I’ll be there”. Then the pandemic happens and they don’t see each other again. 2 years later, Carrie texts Axl and invites him out to the desert for her show at Stagecoach. Fernando and Axl hop in Fernando’s new Tesla and drive out to Palm Springs for the weekend. They make only one stop at the Cabazon gas station and diner, looking for a charging station. Axl walks in the diner and the forks drop on the plates at which point he says “Large Marge sent me”. They get to Palm Springs. Carrie’d assistant forgot to set up their resort accommodations in Rancho Mirage and they end up finding a room at the Aqua Caliente casino- 2 double beds. The sleep until 8pm the next day. A car service picks up Axl and Fernando and they head to the Polo Fields in time for the meet and greet. Axl feels great and is ready to join Carrie and the band on stage. The band have been practicing SCOM and Paradise City for two weeks, doubting that Axl would really turn up. He did. Carrie texts him the next day thanking him for coming and let’s him know that she’ll give him a call when she’s in town next year for the 21st anniversary of American Idol show. The end. 5
lost un the jungle
I got to say that Axl was pretty good in my opinion and considering last year first performances. Hope during the tour he gets better. Very happy to see him again, he seemed to be having fun there, good for him 😉
