The 'Dead Space' franchise thread

Dead Space 1 in particular and also 2 actually mean something to me. I'm a fan, which is quite out of the ordinary as it's rare I dive into horror. I'm usually too afraid. Tried playing Outlast and just switched it off, didn't want to go in the bathroom alone after seeing The Grudge(the less scary USA version)etc lol.

@Dazey

What do you think of that^^^? I'm cautiously very optimistic now.

Really pleased Isaac and Nicole are the same voice actors. The rest of the voice cast has sadly been replaced though. But on the plus side the characters will seemingly be more fleshed out this time around, so they have an opportunity to earn their place.

Audio is really nice. I've played Dead Space 1 probably two dozen times so some of the changes are a bit jarring but overall the presentation looks like a terrific step up.

Dialogue is not 1:1 but again, it's an expansive remake so as long as there isn't anything egregious I can come to terms with this. If they manage to do a good job or even expand and improve the lore/story I'll be stoked. Will be interesting to see remakes of 2 and 3, assuming that happens.

P.S. Not sure how I feel about that drag and slide animation for legless Necromorphs.

Looks pretty good. Haven't played the original. I never take these demos as an indication of how the game is gonna be because sometimes they polish up a specific part for the game or just create something specific for it that doesn't represent how it performs.

Looks awesome. Definitely a day one purchase for me.

@Dazeyhow far into the remake are you and how's it running? I'm installing now.

Hoping it runs well on my aging PC at like 1080p Ultra. Think I'll buy a new top of the line rig next year. RTX 4090 is $4000+ here so I'll probably go with the best AMD GPU & CPU.

Btw I've decided I actually like Isaac's new look. It's modelled after the voice actor and the original did look kinda janky. I do find it weird that he's now young and Nicole is an old hag lol.

1080p Ultra with Dynamic Resolution I seem to be getting a mostly solid 60fps but PC crashed just after their shuttle did and they said the singularity is unstable lol. Second attempt it crashed again in the menu. I'm so sick of all the bullshit in the games industry, such as never fucking releasing without issues.

Okay fuck this it just crashed again while walking after exiting the crashed shuttle. While it was actually running I noticed VSYNC does not work, was getting higher than 60fps even though I set it to 60, was getting about 80fps with random frame drops/stutter. Clearly it has optimization issues. Gonna get a refund and buy again later.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through so far. It's running pretty well for me with a few compromises. I'm running in 1440p in auto which seems to be a mix of high and medium settings and getting a pretty solid 60fps. V sync seems to be working fine though. I did turn it off briefly and was getting higher but inconsistent framerates with some screen tearing so switched it back on.

Haven't tried running in 1080 resolution as of yet but might give it a go and see if higher setttings in lower res look better overall.

One thing I did notice on first playing it was that I was really struggling to get above 30-40fps. I shut down and installed the latest GeForce driver then restarted and that seemed to fix it. Have you tried a driver update before getting a refund? It might be a simple fix.

Another thing I've noticed on some recent games is that I often get stuttering and poor frame rates for the first half hour or so of play which then seem to sort themselves out. I imagine some of it is a shader compilation issue but it's almost as if my PC needs to get used to a certain game for a bit before it can figure out how to run it.

Yup drivers were already up to date, sadly. It's definitely optimization issues. And the end approaches for my poor 1080ti.

How are you finding the dialogue/narrative changes??? Nothing egregious I hope.

I think that raw horsepower wise, your 1080ti is a bit more powerful than my 2070 Super so I'm sure you should be able to run it decently. Was it trying to run with RTX settings or something?

Regarding dialogue and narrative. To be honest it was such a long time ago that I last played the original that I can't remember any of the details so much of this is like playing it again for the first time to me.

Uhhh I hope I didn't have any RTX shit enabled lol I've already requested the refund. I'm pretty certain there wasn't any of that on though. Yeah in terms of raw power it's still alright usually. I don't play super demanding games usually but I'm pleasantly surprised that I seem to be able run what I do play at 4K120

Okay, quick update. Just found advice for settings tweaks on this website.

I was running with DLSS and ray tracing off apparently. I've just adjusted all my settings to the ones recommended with some tweaked higher and now I'm getting a solid 70-80fps with all the visual bells and whistles and it looks fucking gorgeous! :o

That's one of the problems for the 10 series. No DLSS.
