It's not the amount of years that's the issue, It's the shift in how popular music is pushed by the majors... and then the inter-band dynamic, and then the management issues.

If Coldplay released songs with gnrs promotion model they'd be fucked too, if they toured consistently and essentially played the same show for 8yrs they'd be fucked. They don't do those things, they stay relevant and evolve amd adapt to the new sounds around and new models for promoting themselves and their product (playing the game). Their label sees that and knows they are still capable of engaging fans and translating that into streams, physical sales etc. And they see a babd willing to work with them to make their investment a success. Gnr is far too much of a wildcard, even with the successful touring income

Exactly....

Even with touring being the earner, it's surprisingly they are still selling decently well - GNR with below bare minimum....

Not many other groups/artists have the balls to even try that!

Gnr slap those brazen balls on the table and somehow they haven't had them crushed yet! Top hat off to them!

Coldplay - music for people who don’t really like music.

I’d rather stick a screwdriver in my ears than listen to their “music”

How they got so popular I will never understand.

People say the same thing about guns n roses.

Its all just a matter of taste.

Finally! It was only a matter of time...

Axl hasnt sounded this good in years.

Must have regained his motivation as the new ginger spice girl.

I'm not even sure I care anymore.

If the band does tour North America later this year, it really needs to be in support of a new record that has either already been released, or has a locked in release date prior to December 31, 2025. Otherwise, having seen them twice since the reunion, I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on tickets just to hear the same material, with the song order shuffled around to make it seem like a new experience.

Keep it quiet... but I heard from a friend who knows an Uber driver that drove a friend of Axl's cousin - so it's totally legit - Axl's been snake dancing non-stop for the last 2 months in preparation for the Spice Girls re-launch. He practically has the hips of a 38 year old.

coldplay has inarguably been at the top of pop rock entertainment business for quite a while now, they know how to promote, how to do a good visual show, and, honestly, they seem far more true to their mission than guns n' roses these days

Who knew that there was such a big market for elevator music heh?

SCOM is also elevator music....and karaoke, wedding disco, etc etc.

Not that I don't like the song of course, but a few of GNR's songs are definitely in that category.

The only thing I would expect at this point are the singles plus whatever else they have left from the CD era

It’s obvious they chose to release 2 songs per tour to drag it out. Maybe it fulfilled some sort of press obligation with Live Nation. It got them to go to well multiple times over and kept Axl out of doing interviews

I just wished they went and did songs from the ground up. Instead we have Slash and Duff trying to work around 25 yr old takes and a foundation that was meant for a different band. Not saying that what we got is horrible, but it’s certainly something that sticks out at times

Many people on the Coldplay forums would say the same thing about GNR. Except for the fact that they actually have shit they can talk about.

I like the Coldplay! I saw them on the tour after parachutes hit the US airwaves. I met Chris and got his autographs on my ticket and both cd covers.  That man is legit! 🤘🏻🇬🇧

Also, let's be fair to Coldplay, their shows are pretty damn impressive. They throw so much at it in terms of lights, pyro, stage design, effects etc. Couple that with the fact they play passionately and with the sense that every gig is different and unique and you can see why they are a massive draw. Their Glastonbury set last year was just incredible, regardless of whether you personally like their music or not.

To be fair their Glasto sets have always been almost spiritual for them....

Also sorry guys....didn't realise I would start a GNR Vs Coldplay discourse 🤣

Ideas for the tour without album:

- Make the Scarface intro great again. MSIGA. Pyro, loud shotguns and semiautomatic shots full volume. That shit would rock to start the gig.

- Opening with WTTJ-Nightrain-Perfect Crime-etc. A rotative opening song.

- Axl eating some ground glass before show....

- Slash with the UYI guitar tune.

- A fn good rock/blussy/gnr drummer.

Ideaa for a show with an album:

- The same shit that i wrote above.

To this day I know a fella who insists that GnR opens every show with brownstone. So funny! And maybe they used to?

According to setlist.fm they opened with Mr. Brownstone on both shows in Helsinki, Finland in 1991.

It's always funny seeing these exact same copy/pasted posts EVERY TIME a new tour is announced. There is no new album coming. You already know that. And hundreds of dollars? I've seen the reunion show multiple times now with tickets less than $100 and they were all great shows stop crying like a baby dude it's your favorite band or no?
