Perhaps! My unrealistic dream scenario is they knock out some NITL rehashed CD demos, but the album versions are with Buckethead and Robin with a proper mix and master. I know this won't happen. A new album will sound awful if they include the singles together, as they are. Perhaps with The General CD single sounds pretty bad because the mixes are wildly different. Adding Hard Skool and Absurd to another CD with other songs would be an even greater disaster without a remix and remaster.

They could offer that as a bonus. But most likely place you could have got that was the single releases, *alternative mix*.

Hopefully you get to check this off the bucket list eventually though

Ironic that all 3 original titles are much better than 'Monsters' - just makes its a bit cartoonish for me. more throwaway. Soul Monster is by far the best, leave me alone has a political personal appeal to it, and elvis presley and the monster of soul... that is just such a cool name for a song

It just shows again that all that long time tinkering did not lead to anything positive. If your theory is true, that is.

Agreed. I want to hear any “finished” tracks with NuGuns just as they were before the regrouping. I don’t love Bucket like some here do, but some of his solos are amazing.

I'd even go so far as that rumoured 1999 album, up to versions of 2002. These tracks would be killer.

I'm really not that in the know anymore when it comes to the timeline of the earliest leaks but I do remember for example that really early leak of IRS and man, that song really had a mean edge to it. It was blazing sharp riffage, perfectly accompanying Axl's mean vocals.

Same with that early TWAT which was a total mood, a really dark vibe (and I love the album version ,too). I am not even going to start talking about The Blues.

What we got afterwards...

We don't know if Monsters will be in fact the official title yet. It could be just a shortened version of the title, much like the band calls WTTJ as just "Jungle" on the setlist.

This. The title probably changed a 100 times through the years and could change a 100 times before (if it ever gets an official release). It's over 20 plus years old at least.

It also more likely than not sounded radically different in it's original incarnation - like the changes Silkworms (ABSURB), Hardskool (Hard School) went through. Maybe it's more Perhaps level changes, but that track probably suited Slash and Duff a bit more than these.

The version with Buckethead or the pre-Bucket version for all we know could have been twice as long with an extended guitar solo. Same goes for The General, it's a shame we can only hope for leaks to help answer these questions, but with the age of AI - we might never know for sure within a few years.

Refresh my memory if so, but was it ever figured out how the person who leaked TG and Monsters got their hands on them (the day in which the “Perhaps” vinyl was supposed to drop?)

Especially in finished states…

This is also true. but those kind of decisions take Axl decades to decide. so the wait goes on...

Interesting… I’ll never forget hopping on here that morning, seeing the boards buzzing, and then immediately getting onto SoundCloud before they pulled them. Good times

I still think it was someone from the Swedish studio that got both tracks, then forwarded them to a fan that later leaked the songs when the band failed to release that Perhaps' EP.

Didn’t we basically get the 1999 album via the locker leaks?

Finally got around to listening to The General on vinyl. I thought it sounded really good (much better than digital versions). Was almost refreshing. However, felt incomplete without Monsters.

Also the Japanese CD version sounds much better.

I guess I'm in the minority, but Monsters and The General have completely different vibes to me. I never feel the urge to listen to them back to back like so many others prefer to.

I think it’s just the idea of one great epic song full of rhythm changes

I think the general and monsters is a great 1 2 punch, they go very well together imho and are songs I still listen to and enjoy. I think maybe the general is not for everyone while monsters has more appeal to more listeners that are into Gn'R.

maybe it's the Korn influence in the general or it's just not what the average old school Gn'R fan hoped for/expected.

I think Monsters has real potential to catch on, but then again…where? Radio?

We know what the original monsters sounds like to an extent. We have that cell recording of it. It sounds very similar just more hip hopy.

I let AI create artwork for Monsters. The song came out while I was in Vietnam... so I'll forever link the song to that country. Thats why I went with the communist style. the white thing in the back should be a monster 🤷‍♂️

feel free to share it if you like it. its AI anyhowMonsters.png

I was about to say that. Been listening to my Japanese Perhaps and The General CD in my vehicle. The General is still way louder than Perhaps, and I can still hear the clipping but overall it sounds better than the leak at least. It’s growing on me. I hope the official Monsters or whatever it will be titled is mixed and mastered better. Such a song deserves that, but it’s already gone through hell without Buckethead and/or Robin.

Guitar work is absolutely fine in Monsters as is 🤷‍♂️

Sure it's fine, but I'm not sure the bluesy approach fits the song that well. People are mocked for preferring the cellphone clip because it's mostly unintelligible, but the solo is clearly audible and I feel fits the song better.
