Watching RIR 2011 live off my nut on MDMA at Uni in UK with my housemates on the projector. 'Guys you have to watch, let's get off our faces and watch this, it'll be amazing, i saw gnr 4 times in 2010 and Axl blew everyone away with his voice, plus i think they're going to play new songs!'

When he was looking for the lyrics and repeating the same line over and over then he refused to sing the outro and walked off stage for 10 minutes in a huff.... they laughed and laughed, (Rightly, it was hilarious) and i knew they were never going to give Axl another chance again. But still, what a night it was!

I stayed up all night to watch that RIR and couldn't believe it. Tried to justify it too to myself ("ah, it wasn't THAT bad") but it was absolutely dismal. I thought they were done after that.

To this day,  I've never watched the Bridge School one. Curiosity will get the better of me one day though! Or alcohol.

omg, remembering bridge school, what was ashba in Better closing riff, right during the camera close-up at his guitar, hahahahahaha, he's the best at fake playing

Wasn't that the show where the dude who used to play before Melissa, just waved his towel around the whole time?

I actually created those videos and yeah, my channel got taken down back in like 2018 for those insane copyright strike takedowns. Luckily found the original files for those videos on an old hard drive back in like 2022. Idek how I could send them to you.

Bridge School and RIR11 both on YouTube, not wiped away, where are you searching? 😂

Yeah but there were videos titled "the Axl Rose disaster" with millions of views but seems Axl has had them scrubbed 😂

Just watched November Rain again from this show and it was awful, Axl was singing the wrong lyrics and the band were looking at him and thinking wtf are you doing.

I get you now, I thought you meant the individual shows. Seems silly if he’s somehow had those taken down but the full shows still remain. :shrugs:

The irony is 2011 his voice was still great, really really strong compared to what we've had since 2017. You look at back at some of those shows from 2011 till 2014 and there was some mad power there, yet everyone was saying he was finished at the time. Dramatic.

November rain aside his voice was fine at Rio 11 and some of those performances were killer, the rest of the tour was brilliant.

The setlists were over 3 hours with Shacklers, Out Ta Get Me, Scraped popping up. Riff Raff and Rosie were highlights of the shows. Axl looked great with the pimp chains and jewelry and jackets.

Sadly we were so expecting something new the whole time from 2011 onwards, every opening night of a new leg, closing night, different continent like Moscow 2012 and so on. It didn't help that 4tus kept dangling his vague comments and Ashba would say stuff like "who knows what'll happen, expect surprises" ( before the Joint show in Dec 2011) I seem to remember.

2011 gets way too much hate, because of Rio. I definitely wouldn't say most of Rio was 'fine', but late 2011 and early 2012 were definitely still good. Not quite 2010 levels, but he could still bring out the classic vocals on demand.

By late 2011, he looked basically the same as late 2010 :shrugs:

That look above was far from his worst, certainly better than the cornrows and silk shirt and other weird stuff. But it just made him look old. Especially the mustache and cowboy boots.

Compare that to 2023 when he was over 10 years older but had good fitting, modern clothes and sneakers, and he looked younger:

I was at the Bridge School concert that year that GNR played. I couldnt believe how bad it was!

I was always curious if it sounded as bad in person as it did on video, because I know the videos sometimes can have the vocals mixed drier and more up front than what the audience hears. Sounds like the in-person experience couldn't even mask that trainwreck lol
