And along the line he lost interest, or wasn't sure a large audience would care at this point.  Could be a combination of all of those things. And he wants Slash & Duff on the material, that must be a big part of the reason too.

Still I'm happy with what we've got, 10 years ago I thought we'd never get more songs. I still hope I can get to hear Seven, it's Marco Beltrami's favorite, apparently it's really something. I'm sure we'll hear it. I still listen to Soul Monster very frequently, it's such a great song.

Even though the basic logic may be on your side, I’ll still say I wouldn’t even consider this stealing. We’re talking about 25-year old demos (if that’s the case) recorded with people who are long gone from the band and now uploaded on the internet for a few hundred or maybe thousand fans to listen to; not about brand new songs that the guys just recorded and are about to release, and now this is ruining it completely. 
(Remember Axl’s "vast damage across the board" leak talk in 08? Really, was it? Did some people expect CD to sound differently, even after the new songs that were played during all those tour legs? I don’t think so. Where exactly was the huge damage then?) 

Also remember, the Village leaks happened in 2019, and I haven’t seen any overall harm. It didn’t either make me go, or stop me from going, to a show or buy/not buy anything. 
Nothing would happen, and I insist it serves him right. Here's the thing: maybe I wouldn’t have said this if they hadn’t spent the last 8 years on one and the same tour, or if they at least communicated properly, like other bands normally do. But here we are.

But the letter likely wouldn't come from Team Brazil but from the band's legal counsel representing the band and not the management, so your story doesn't add up 100%. That being said, I don't distrust that a C&D has been sent to Zutaut.

I don't know the actual wording of the letter, I assume it was from a solicitor on behalf of TB/GNR. Semantics.

I don't think it is "semantics" to point out that the solicitor's client is the band and not the management. It might be uninteresting or trivial, but not semantics. This post, though, would be about semantics.

Sure it keeps the hardcore fanbase engaged and doesn't prevent you & I from still going to gigs & buying stuff.

But who knows how much it affects Axl & his reasons.

Maybe it's just like his autobiography situation. Things he needed to write, contemplated giving his side of the story to everyone, but ultimately figured it was best kept secret. Or like what he said during the recording of "This I Love", at the end of the session, and asked the guy managing the recording to erase what he said. He's just a very private person who is struggling between what he can share and what he feels he can't. He didn't even want to release This I Love, the former band encouraged him to, he just wasn't confident with it, or maybe it meant too much to him.

Or I could use a better comparison: how many of us wrote a long mail to someone, sharing some very important things we felt had to be said, but ultimately didn't send the mail? Yeah but I'd say you're overthinking it a bit. He's had two decades to figure that shit out. And when stuff did leak, fuck all happened. And when HS leaked, suddenly he didn't need another decade to finally release it, did he. He's not made of candy, you know.

I would say he is very insecure and afraid of the songs getting out there, but then there are all those stories of him excitingly trapping people into listening to Chinese Democracy demos while he explains which dead Beatle the bridge of each song is a tribute to. 

It's incredibly strange that they got back together in 2016 and it took them 5 years to start releasing new music. Especially when you consider that they didn't even have to write new stuff because Axl conservatively had a 40 minute album already finished. Also consider, that music only came out after the Village leaks. It is entirely possible that if that stuff never leaked, we don't get any of those singles. 

You can be a fan and also admit that this band does not operate in an optimal fashion.
