Slash and Duff McKagan’s New Charity Single, ‘I Can Breathe’

Not bad. Duffs vocals are pretty good here, nice vocal layers. Song kinda has a sludgy almost later Mastodon vibe which is cool. I can't help listen to these Slash/Duff linked songs and think "what would Axl sound like on a song like this? probably sound like something off Chinese though, like Sorry or something equally moody.

As usual the solo is going to get the most criticising from me being a guitar player and uber Slash fan. It sounds like it was thrown together with little to no thought, it's loose there's some really wonky notes in there but in a world where everything is now quantised and pitch corrected to the max, it is kinda nice seeing Slash clearly giving zero fucks about being sloppy. Overall one of the better things I've heard from Duff/Slash in recent years

For me its duffs vocals. I just cant get into any song he sings.

Instrumentally it sounds pretty good though. Just needs a real singer.

I really don't like the weird ass time signatures throughout the whole song, it's really exhausting for me. XD

And yeah, I just don't like Duffs vocals in general, so won't be listening again.

Nothing special. Compared to the great releases in recent time this is definitely not that good imo.

Generally agree, but here and there he hits it or gets close. Like this isn't amazing, but it's good for Duff😄

Yeah, these songs usually mash my brains into rice like a Matt Sorum drum solo, I'm just glad I have no urge to learn it. I just have to ignore the urge to try and count it😄

It's a Cesar Gueikian song, he's Gibson's CEO. It's like if your boss asked you to join his band lol. There's this video with him telling how it all came together. 

I like Duff's vocals, but Slash's solo is really bad. To me it sounds a bit like his approach to the CD-era songs. I admit that I could change my mind if his tone had more gain, but the harsh clean tone makes it a lot sloppier than it already is.

I think Slash tried to capture the song’s energy with fast runs but his playing doesn’t go anywhere and it just sounds like noodling. That’s how I would describe it, as someone who has no knowledge about music theory or guitar technique

Tried again on the way home and felt a little better about it but still kind of mediocre.

The overuse of weird time signatures as a crutch is what annoys the shit out of me with modern metal bands. It's like "I don't have a melodically or rhythmically interesting idea, so I'll make it unique by just making the time signature as unnecessarily complex as possible while chugging the same basic drop D chords as every other band."

 

Slash was probably like "I can't follow this shit, I'll just noodle my way through until it ends".

I don’t recognise Duff at all. His vocals are even more processed than Axl’s on Love To Love and The General.
