At least during this period the hope of new music was stronger than it is now.

If you mean new releases, back then there was zero. And now we actually had a few.

It's funny. Izzy was important during the AFD era, including the UYI songs that were written in that time (most notably, YCBM). But a lot of what the band did during the UYI era didn't have Izzy's creative input, or even in a performance level. At the end of the day, he really didn't want to get involved since early 90s, and I'm sure it wouldn't be that different if he rejoined the band now. I miss him more for his rhythm guitar work than his writing, to be honest.

Also, bringing back Izzy and Adler wouldn't make any difference on this band's output. And if they somehow managed to write and release something with Axl, it would still be a mess and people would complain about his vocals/production, Slash's lead, Adler's drums etc.

Matt Sorum is back in GN’R. Maybe…!

In a recent Instagram post he made, he tagged @gunsnroses

He’s also posted himself warming up on the drums to record for a “secret” project

And for Metallica’s recent charity auction, there is a Matt Sorum UYI Tour bass drum artwork, signed by Matt, that he also signed “GN’R 2024”

Poodle-hair back in 2025 to turn our brains into mashed rice starts now!

Please let this happen

Izzy didn’t play on Civil War and I think Slash re recorded Izzy’s parts on Don’t Cry AND nobody thinks Gilby was on UYI 1 or 2.

Seeeeriously....How can anyone think that when Gilby came after UYI's were out!?

Some people really got LATE into GNR world

On the side note, Gilby will always be the best thing that happend to GNR on Izzy's position.

Everything later on was a continuous revolving door.

I got UYI 1 & 2 on cassette in early 1992, and I knew nothing of the band outside Axl and Slash. On the inner sleeves of the UYI cassettes there was a picture of Gilby, and not Izzy, and I’m not kidding. How bizarre right?

So I can understand how there could be confusion regarding who played on the album

There's no picture of Gilby in UYI's inner sleeves. I think you're confusing it with TSI.

I’m not confusing shit. My UYI cassettes had an individual picture of Gilby in there along with individual pics the rest of the band too.

Who knows why this was? Maybe Axl was pissed at Izzy leaving, maybe whoever added photos of the band wasn’t clued in, that Gilby wasn’t actually playing on there, because he was touring with the band?

Either way, I’m not confusing anything. I’ll have to dig my old cassette tapes out and upload it here.

Now that I think of it, I’ve even got UYI CDs that were special “picture discs” that also featured Gilby’s photos on them.

It’s bizarre, but maybe Axl wanted to include Gilby’s photos, as Izzy was long gone.

The guy did nothing. He simplified Izzy's guitar arrangements, he was barely audible and the only studio contribution was for TSI's covers - that were all power chords anyways.

Gilby looked good and he was there for when the band needed. That's all.

And yes, I'm aware of his solo work.

Couldn’t those be just bootlegs or bootleg inserts/booklets? I remember having this double cassette around 92 which looked pretty professional, but it was a weird mixture of Rock in Rio and Farm Aid; the first one had Axl on the cover, the other one Slash. I thought – what with me being a new guy – they were the real deal. Only they weren’t!

Flowers where it's due, the only one that has actually contributed songs that have seen an official release since (and before!) Izzy's departure is PHT. Mighty fine songs too.

No, these were all official releases sold from legitimate music stores.

That's weird. You should keep them, could be valuable some day.

I may be misunderstanding, but if you are referring to Richard Fortus, he's been in the band for well over 20 years (since 2002). I also find his playing to be excellent. He even plays some of Bucket's leads live.

I hope they utilize him more in the studio on future releases. Give him a few solos at the very least!

But the thing is, you don’t have to play Bucket things live when replacing Izzy. Richard has some good spots but he doesn’t know when to just lay back and don’t fucking shred.

they're playing Chinese material and some of the leads off that record feature techniques Slash doesn't really uses and I think that not every guitar part can be changed enough for it to sound good when a player like Slash does it, a more old school vibe compared to Bucket's parts so someone has to play some of these parts and it's not going to be Slash.

in the last few years it seems that Slash also doesn't always know when to slow his playing down but I find Slash to be a much more interesting player with more to my taste note choices and Richard does tend to overplay imo.
