Wow- Chinese democracy was released 16 years ago ! Can we define GNR as a touring nostalgia act now ?

Expectations play a big role. I thought with Slash and Duff back chances for new music would increase. Personally I‘m happy with every release but I definitely expected more.

Which is fair. We all heard about Axl's struggles with Universal, the old members and so and so, but it seems that all should be worked out by now. Instead, we've been getting a two songs pack for each US tour.

Yeah, it can mean a lot. I always argue that we should hope but never expect. Failed expectations is a drag.

So in a sense it is clever to not expect much more now, to get over past disappointments and readjust expectations going forward, keep the expectations low, and then hopefully we will be happily surprised at some point. Then we have nothing to lose and everything to win.

not that I believe Axl needs a reason to not release music, but I think we, among other things, are still seeing the negative effect of Axl going through the Chinese Democracy process of recording and releasing it to a lukewarm reception and from the Love To Love session he still seems to take a long time to record vocals even if it's a cover.

imagine how long it could take with the technology we have now, with Axl probably still being artistically insecure/a perfectionist (call it whatever you want) to come up and release a brand new album.

seems like that would be too much and instead a better way to approach it is only focusing on one brand new tune that could start from an Axl lyric, a Slash riff or composition, or ideas from Duff who imho became a much better songwriter in recent years and already has ideas for Gn'R but I don't think that's how Axl works and that is not how Chinese was made or any other Gn'R album for that matter.

the band is older now and if a masterpiece came easily for them, maybe Axl would have wanted to do more. I was hoping Slash would come up with something Axl wouldn't be able to resist kinda like the first ideas of Fall To Pieces and we'll get like a Better situation where something clicks but it seems Axl is just fine with just the touring and occasional Chinese single release, at least for now while time is running out for them to go for it.

at least I think it's highly likely that we'll get more old unreleased tunes with Slash and Duff's work on there. that's not nothing, even if it's very far from what I want it to be like. (a full album, or at least one brand new song which I still think they're capable of pulling off)

Nutz!

Fun Fact: two former members of Led Zeppelin and one from Yes once released a movie soundtrack album called Scream for Help and they titled one of the songs Spaghetti Junction.

It seems like at this point there just going to go the route of releasing new singles.

A boxset or even a deluxe edition of the Spaghetti Incident didn't happen.

I really can't stop being mad at such a myriad of wasted opportunities.

It is insane how time has been flying from 2008 till now!

Even the reunion itself, by the end of this year it will be 10 years since the announcement Slash and Duff were coming back.  The same amount of time that it took GNR to form in 1985, and get all the way to their last release of SFTD and trying to make things work in 1995

Talking about time... The last time they released something new, Clinton was in office.

Think about it.

Meanwhile Helloween reunited, released kick ass single, toured and followed with kick ass new album and live a blue ray; continued touring, released another blue ray concert with UPDATED setlist including new songs and are about to release a 2nd album. Not to mention the magazines, photo shoots, and media interviews,  other projects, guest appearances  and so forth.

Savatage seems to be following suit with their 2025 reunion.

Heck, even Metal Church did it well when they reunited with Mike Howe (RIP) in 2016!

Clinton was in office in 2021? How Absurd! ;)

You got that right! There are many, and some notable ones are not getting 2-3 CD-era heavy Bucket and Robin albums (heck, I'd even take 1 album with the lineup with Bumblefoot and DJ Ashba) before the 2016 reunion, and at least 1 album of material from the NITL lineup from 2016 to present. :(

If the above actually happened, it would have satisfied everyone. I'd love to hear everything Robin and Bucket brought to the table, and 2016-2017 Axl with Slash and Duff on actual new material would be great too.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds. (Probably more CD2 reheats for the foreseeable future)
