axlslash
I say Stevie Ray by a mile. I'm listening to his last show in Alpine Valley, 1990 right now. Just makes ya sasd knowing that he got on a helicopter right afterwards, and that was it. Such a great player. Just listening to his playing on Leave My Girl Alone and his cover of Voodoo Chile gives ya chills. He kicks Hendrux, Slash, n the rest square in the ass. Stevie Ray wouldn't have been playing what he was playing if it wasn't for Hendrix: he revolutionised the guitar forever in a way that would never be acomplished again. moreblack
I notice you conveniently left Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Zakk Wylde, and Paul Gilbertoff the list. My vote is for Vai.BTW what the fuck is Tom Petty doing on a "greatest guitarist" poll? Edited September 19, 2004 by moreblack
Lindy
Hendrix without a doubt

Where this may be true, Vaughn takes Hendrix to school, even on Hendrix songs. Listen to Voodoo Chile from Vaughn's last show August 25th, 1990 (get it here). It is a no contest. Check out that whole show. Vaughn rocks it up in a way Hendrix could never imagine.

I know he's brittish born, but he's lived here for enough of his life that I'd consider him American as well
Patience 4 Axl
Slash is an American Citizen now, so I would say he still qualifies. But I still voted Hendrix. :krider:

DirtyDeeds
I agree with moreblack.Steve Vai is the best guitarist on earth unfortunately most people forget him. Vai is extremely good, yes.I don't know if he's the best though. There's something about his playing that somehow strikes me as a little.... off somehow. I don't have any of his solo albums though... all i have is his work with Diamond Dave and some stuff in G3.
