Bono
O.k. just for the record this is the last thhread I'll start regarding U2's new album. Doesn't mean I won't post about U2 anymore, it just means I'm done starting threads dedicated to the new album. Now here's what I thik of it:I can't really describe it. It's not the "Rock" album we were lead to believe but it does rock emotionally. This album is 100% heart and Soul. You can hear it in the playing and definately hear it in Bono's voice more now than ever. After 3 listens my favorite song is definately Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own Listening to it today it was the first song ever that brought tears to my eyes.Knowing what the song is about I started thinking of not necessarily Bono singing it at his Dad's funeral, but basically anyone singing a song like this at their parents funeral. Somthing you wrote for them and dedicate to them. I can't imagine how anyone would get through it. It's a pretty powerful song as is the album. Which by the way is dedicated to bono's dad. That's all I'll say. I love the album so far and first reaction is that it's the best U2 album since Achtung Baby. It's up there with Achtung and Joshua Tree in my opinion. Oh and if anyone does want to say what they think about the album we should keep it all in one thread. I'll nominate this thread. Bono
Most overrated band ever IMO.Even more than Kiss? KISS being mentioned with U2. Oh well.
Teroz
Most overrated band ever IMO.Even more than Kiss? Well Kiss have never been about the music, they are entertainers. Leave the serious music to other bands, but IMO Kiss has good songs....but then again they also have about 10 albums of 100% crap. Maybe 2-3 albums that are good.Anyway about the topic, I can't really say I've only heard Vertigo and one other song that I can't remember right now. Vertigo was pretty basic, nothing special but not bad I guess. I still like Discoteque more lol
Gunner Boy
U2 is amazaing...I love itI haven't bought the album yet, but I've listened to some of the songs on the readio and I can tell Vertigo is my favorite so far.....awesome song..I'm looking forward to buying the album as soon as possible B) hope this new album kicks the other shitty music asses....we r having too much crap these days....this release is great, seriously guys
Rumin
I've heard 'Vertigo' and it sounds pretty good, so I'll probably try to hear the rest of the album.
Gigger
I used to be quite a big fan (not on the same level as Bono but fairly big none the less). I prefer the 1980s stuff to anything they did in the 90s altho personally I thought ATYCLB was a step back in the right direction after a decade of experimenting with other sounds. Joshua Tree would probably rank in my top 5 albums of all time. And I do think they are one of the few bands around at the moment who will actually have any real impact on the rest of the industry. However, I was quite sceptical about HTDAAB - Vertigo is an awful song in my opinion - and therefore didn't really get that excited about it or feel the need to download it. But giving it a listen now I think it's a great album. It's not in the same league as Joshua Tree (but then again it's hardly fair to compare it to one of the greatest albums of all time) and certainly ranks in my top 3 albums of the year (Hot Fuss - the Killers, and Up All Night - Razorlight being the others).I think my problem with U2 is that I have such high expectations of what they should release, bear in mind that this is the band that are responsible for songs like "One", "With or Without You" and "New Year's Day", songs which are both timeless and perfectly encapsulate the moment that you are hearing them.As for stand out tracks, well in truth none really shone for me. I'm gonna be horribly predictable and say "Miracle Drug", "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own" and "City of Blinding Lights" are the best 3 albums on the track, although "A Man and a Women" and "One Step Closer" are good tracks too. It's a shame that they released "Vertigo" as a single, it is undoubtedly the worst track on the album!I dunno really what I think of the album in truth. It doesn't come close to U2 at their best but it is certainly better than most of what we've heard this year! Maybe it'll grow on me, but it certainly isn't an instant classic. And so into 2005 with new releases from Oasis and Guns n Roses (yeah right!) to look forward to. Do I think that they'll better this album? In all honesty, no probably not, but to me if these bands get it "right" then even U2 are made to look average. atto
^^ I loved the album, and my top 3 songs are the same as yours. I really don't like Vertigo either, and it's just such a different song from the rest of the album, thank god!!But yeah, great album.Oasis are releasing a new album? I hope I get to see them live!! yesilikegnr
hmm.. okay so it sounds like a good album. Maybe I'll pick it up.. but if I can't find it I really don't wanna ask for it."Do you have How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb?"... I might get thrown out if it's not a U2 fan I ask! slashs_servant
KISS are great =D Dont diss em. I've heard the album twice, and i can honestly say that it sucks in every way. U2 are very overated, not as overated as nirvana but overated. It just sucks, the guitar is boring, the whole feel of the album is gay, their first single is average, the rest of the album is under average. They really do suck, i liked their previous album though, all you can leave behind .That was good, but this one, just eats shit IMO.

Leigh-Rok!
I purchased the album on the strength of 'Vertigo' hoping that the rest of it would be as rocky... but after listening to it a few times, I find myself putting 'American Idiot' and 'Hurricane Party' back in the CD player. The album seems to lack any punch.I knew there must have been a reason why I didn't have any U2 in my CD collection...Sorry Bono, jmo. The album seems to lack any punch.I knew there must have been a reason why I didn't have any U2 in my CD collection...Sorry Bono, jmo.I hear ya. the album definatley isn't the rock album we were led to believe. I really dig the album and find that the songs seem to get better and better but I must admit I was a bit disapointed with the lack of solid rock songs. You have to expect some mellowness with U2 but all the hype surrounding the album was that is was a guitar driven, angry rock album. Hmmmmm.... The public will be lead on even further now that the new single All Because of You is on radio. that's a pretty good rocker as well as Vertigo but from there it gets pretty tame. Love and Peace or Else is the only other one that gets going and it's kinda slow in the same vain as Bullet the Blue Sky(Joshua Tree) only with a bit more of a bluesy feel to it. I think Bono's voice is amazing and he sounds better than ever, even with the raspiness creeping in(must be getting old ). But songs like Sometimes you Can't Make it on Your Own and Miracle Drug are up there with the best of U2 ballads. I do wish they would someday put out a solid upbeat album though. So yeah, I love the album but I feel that I was misled These songs will adapte incredibly well to the live show I think B) Edited November 26, 2004 by Bono

Bono
Oh and one more thing about the album and I know alot of you will think I'm nuts but whatever.... I think the album cover is the best U2 album cover yet. I don't know why. It just looks cool. It's bold with the black border and the black and white picture of the band looks cool and the red at the top just makes it stand out. Not that album covers determine how good an album is but you know
